Civic Area
Civic Area ( it, Area Civica, AC) was a progressive political party in Italy. Led by Giulio Santagata, a former minister in Romano Prodi's second government, AC was mainly composed of former Olivists, a faction of Prodi's loyalists within Democracy is Freedom and, subsequently, the Democratic Party (PD). In December 2017 AC formed, along with the Italian Socialist Party, the Federation of the Greens and Progressive Area, the Together electoral list, within the centre-left coalition, for the upcoming 2018 general election. In the election the list obtained a mere 0.6% of the vote and no seats. However, Serse Soverini (AC) was elected to the Chamber from the single-seat constituency of Imola, Emilia-Romagna. In October 2018 Soverini joined Italia in Comune and soon became the party's regional coordinator in Emilia-Romagna. Giulio Santagata
Giulio Santagata (born 1 October 1949) is an Italian politician, former member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies and leader of Together. Biography Giulio Santagata was born in Zocca, near Modena, in 1949. He graduated in Economy and Commerce at the University of Bologna; then he started working for the region Emilia-Romagna, but after few years he abandoned this job to become a tax advisor. In 1996 he was appointed economic councilor by Prime Minister Romano Prodi; when Prodi became President of the European Commission in 1999, Santagata followed him in Brussels. In 2001 Santagata was elected in the Italian Chamber of Deputies. In 2006 Santaagata was the main coordinator of Prodi's electoral campaign for the general election, which Prodi narrowly won against the centre-right led by Silvio Berlusconi. Progressive Area ( it, Area Progressista, AP) was a democratic-socialist political party in Italy. AP is mainly composed of former members of Progressive Camp (CP), a tentative party founded and briefly led by Giuliano Pisapia, who finally decided not to run and declared CP's experience over. AP's leading members include Michele Ragosta, Adriano Zaccagnini and Luigi Lacquaniti, all three former members of Left Ecology Freedom (of which Pisapia was an independent) and transitated through the Democratic Party and the Democratic and Progressive Movement. The party is led by Matteo Renzi, a former Prime Minister of Italy and former secretary of the Democratic Party (PD).
