Cityrider is a bus service in Tyne and Wear, England, which connects Springwell Village, Wrekenton, Gateshead and Newcastle upon Tyne with Washington, Hylton Castle and Sunderland. History The service was formerly branded as ''Fab Fifty Six'', with a number of Volvo B9TL/Wright Gemini 2 double-deck vehicles branded in a floral orange livery. Prior to the service's upgrade in January 2014, it was operated by Scania L94UB/Wright Solar single-deck vehicles in the ''Fab Fifty Six'' livery. In May 2009, night services were introduced on Friday and Saturday nights. In January 2014, 17 Volvo B9TL Eclipse Gemini double-decker buses were introduced on the route. In summer 2020, some services on this route were operated with open-top buses. A daily 24-hour service was introduced in May 2021. Tyne And Wear
Tyne and Wear () is a metropolitan county in North East England, situated around the mouths of the rivers Tyne and Wear. It was created in 1974, by the Local Government Act 1972, along with five metropolitan boroughs of Gateshead, Newcastle upon Tyne, Sunderland, North Tyneside and South Tyneside. It is bordered by Northumberland to the north and Durham to the south; the county boundary was formerly split between these counties with the border as the River Tyne. The former county council was based at Sandyford House. The Angel is a bus service in County Durham and Tyne and Wear, England, which connects Birtley, Low Fell, Gateshead and Newcastle upon Tyne with Chester-le-Street, Durham and Brandon. The service is named after Antony Gormley's ''Angel of the North'', which the route passes. Double-decker Bus
A double-decker bus or double-deck bus is a bus that has two storeys or decks. They are used for mass transport in the United Kingdom, the United States, New Zealand, Europe, Asia and also in cities such as Sydney; the best-known example is the red London bus, namely the AEC Routemaster. Early double-deckers put the driver in a separate cab. Passenger access was via an open platform at the rear and a bus conductor collected fares. Modern double-deckers have a main entrance door at the front and the driver takes fares, thus halving the number of workers aboard, but slowing the boarding process. The rear open platform, popular with passengers, was abandoned for safety reasons, as there was a risk of passengers falling when running and jumping onto the bus. The Wright Solar is a low entry single-decker bus body that was built on Scania L94UB and Scania K UB chassis by Wrightbus between 2000 and 2011. The Wright Solar Fusion is an articulated version. Most of the buses are fitted with the same design as the Eclipse and the Pulsar. A common design is that it has a one-piece windscreen covering the destination display with an arched top together with the roof. All buses were built with two axles, however a tri-axle variant was offered. The Scania 4-series low floor city bus and coach range was introduced by Scania in 1997 as a successor to the 3-series bus range. The 4-series bus range was first presented in September 1996, when the integral low-floor city bus OmniCity was revealed. Production of the chassis range started in second half of 1997, and by the end of 1998 all worldwide production facilities had changed from 3-series to 4-series.
