City Life Comedian Of The Year
The City Life Comedian of the Year competition is held annually in Manchester, and sponsored by the '' City Life'' magazine. The competition began in 1990, and has become one of the most prestigious comedy awards in the North West of England, mostly based on the subsequent success of many of its entrants and winners. The competition is open to all, and early heats often have a broad mix of talent and ability. From each heat, the entrants are whittled down to eight finalists. In the first year, the competition was won by Caroline Aherne, who went on to create '' Mrs Merton'' and '' The Royle Family'' and in subsequent years all three writers of the successful sitcom '' Phoenix Nights'' - Peter Kay, Dave Spikey and Neil Fitzmaurice - won the competition. Comedy is a genre of fiction that consists of discourses or works intended to be humorous or amusing by inducing laughter, especially in theatre, film, stand-up comedy, television, radio, books, or any other entertainment medium. The term originated in ancient Greece: in Athenian democracy, the public opinion of voters was influenced by political satire performed by comic poets in theaters. The theatrical genre of Greek comedy can be described as a dramatic performance pitting two groups, ages, genders, or societies against each other in an amusing '' agon'' or conflict. The Unbroadcastable Radio Show
The Unbroadcastable Radio Show was a monthly live comedy show performed at the Comedy Store, Manchester. The show took the format of the recording of a radio show, featuring topical comedy written up to (and occasionally during) the day of performance. The show has been nominated for "Best Writing" and "Best Touring Show" at the North West Comedy Awards. It has also been featured in the Liverpool and Ludlow Comedy Festivals. The show is currently in development with the BBC comedy unit. John Warburton and Toby Hadoke performed on BBC Radio 4's 28 Acts in 28 Minutes doing an Unbroadcastable sketch. The last Unbroadcastable Radio Show was performed on 21 June 2009. It featured Toby, Peter, Helen and Dominic. Seymour Mace
Seymour Mace is a British comedian and actor. Mace was born in 1969, and he moved with his family soon afterwards to South Africa as his father worked as a gold miner. The family returned to the UK, to Bedworth, near Coventry. Mace worked as a clown in the mid-1990s before becoming a stand-up comedian. He was a finalist at the So You Think You're Funny competition at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2001. John Marcus Bishop (born 30 November 1966) is an English comedian, presenter, actor and former footballer. Bishop formerly played football as a midfielder for Winsford United F.C., Crewe Alexandra F.C., Runcorn F.C., Rhyl F.C., Witton Albion F.C., Hyde United F.C., Southport F.C., Stalybridge Celtic F.C., Northwich Victoria F.C., Caernarfon Town F.C. and Holywell Town F.C. Justin Moorhouse (born 15 May 1970) is an English stand-up comedian, radio DJ and actor from Manchester. He appeared in ''Phoenix Nights'', ''Looking for Eric'' and Guess The Attendance.
