Citroën Xsara Kit Car
Citroën Xsara Kit Car is a rally car derived from the Citroën Xsara, it was built by Citroën Sport based on the FIA Kit car F2 regulations to participate in the French Rally Championship, in which it raced from 1998 to 2001. Background In March 1997, development works on the engine began, and in April - on the body structure. The first car was delivered for further optimization on July 12, 1997. The final version made its debut at the Lyon-Charbonnieres Rally in March 1998. Championship of France and Spain Already during the first start in the Lyon-Charbonnieres Rally, Philippe Bugalski, driving an Xsara, won the general classification of the rally. Bugalski won 6 out of the 10 rallies of the 1998 French championship with the Xsara and eventually won the championship. Philippe Bugalski
Philippe Bugalski (12 June 1963 – 10 August 2012) was a French rally driver. Bugalski became a works Renault driver in the French Rally Championship in 1994. In 1998, he joined the works Citroën team, with whom he won the French national title three years in a row, from 1998 to 2000. By the mid 1990s he had become a regular choice as tarmac specialist for Citroën, along with team mate Jesús Puras. However, as the Citroën Total World Rally Team entered the World Rally Championship full-time, employing such drivers as Sébastien Loeb, he was frequently entered as Citroën's 3rd driver for tarmac rallies. His top performances were on home soil on the Tour de Corse, but he also showed potential in the Rallye Sanremo, Monte Carlo Rally, and Rallye Catalunya. In 1999, he won 2 races overall with formula 2 cars. The 1998 Wales Rally GB (formally the 54th Network Q Rally of Great Britain) was held between 22–24 November 1998 as the final round of the 1998 World Rally Championship season. It was the second victory of the 1998 season for Richard Burns and his co-driver Robert Reid. It also saw Tommi Mäkinen score a hat-trick of Drivers' championships after his closest rival Carlos Sainz, just 300 metres from the finish and running in fourth with just the final special stage to go, suffered a huge upset; his Corolla was struck by engine failure at Margam, thus surrendering his title to Mäkinen.
