Citizen Option ( es, Opción Ciudadana) was a political party in Colombia founded November 9, 2009 at the national convention of the former Citizens' Convergence movement. In 2013, it changed its name again to Citizen Option. History Origins The party was first created under the name of Citizen Convergence (Spanish: ''Convergencia Ciudadana'') by ''Luis Alberto Gil Colorado'' (former member of the M-19 guerrilla) in 1997. In 2002 it decided to help the government of president Alvaro Uribe without being part of it. During this time, it received politicians rejected by other Uribist groups due to their links with ''Paramilitarism''. Colombian Parapolitics Scandal
The Colombian parapolitics scandal or "parapolítica" in Spanish (a combination of the words '' paramilitar'' and '' política'') refers to the 2006–present Colombian congressional scandal in which several congressmen and other politicians have been indicted for colluding with the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC), a paramilitary group which is responsible for killing thousands of Colombian civilians. In February 2007, Colombian Senator Jorge Enrique Robledo suggested another term, "parauribismo", indicating that the scandal was mainly affecting officials or political allies of President Álvaro Uribe's administration. By April 17, 2012, 139 members of Congress were under investigation. Colombia had historically maintained a two-party system, which means that there were two dominant political parties, resulting in considerable difficulty for anybody to achieve major electoral success under the banner of any other party. Dissidents from the two main parties also had chances to win elections. 2014 Colombian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Colombia on 9 March 2014 to elect members to both chambers of Congress. The nationwide constituency for the 102-member Senate was contested, as well as the 166 seats of the House of Representatives, plus the delegates to the Andean Parliament. There were 773 candidates for the Senate, 1,528 candidates for the House of Representatives, and 23 candidates for the five Colombian seats in the Andean Parliament. 32,795,962 Colombians had been registered to vote in the elections by the cut-off date of 25 January 2014. 2010 Colombian Legislative Election
Colombia held elections to both chambers of Congress on . The nationwide constituency for the 102-member Senate was contested by 16 lists, comprising 948 candidates. There are 33 regional constituencies for the Chamber of Representatives, plus a few other ethnic minority constituencies. In all, 282 lists, with 1,533 candidates, contested the 165 seats in the Chamber. Almost 30 million people were registered to vote. Results Senate Incumbent President Álvaro Uribe maintained an absolute majority of seats in the Senate. National Democratic Alliance (Colombia)
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) () is a centre-right to right-wing conservative Indian political alliance led by the right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
