Cispus River
The Cispus River is about long and flows into the Cowlitz River at Lake Scanewa in the Cascade Range of Washington. Its tributaries drain most of south-central and southeastern Lewis County, extreme northeast Skamania County, and some of western Yakima County. Its main stem begins in Lewis County in a high, glacial valley to the north of Snowgrass Flats in the Goat Rocks Wilderness, located on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. From here the river flows in a southwesterly direction and takes on the waters of several important headwater tributaries such as Walupt Creek. About from its mouth, the Cispus River receives Muddy Fork from the left. Muddy Fork starts from this junction, at Mount Adams' Lava Glacier and is named for the glacial debris and silt in the water which give the river a muddy appearance. Mount Adams (Washington)
Mount Adams, known by some Native American tribes as Pahto or Klickitat, is a potentially active stratovolcano in the Cascade Range. Although Adams has not erupted in more than 1,000 years, it is not considered extinct. It is the second-highest mountain in Washington, after Mount Rainier. Adams, named for President John Adams, is a member of the Cascade Volcanic Arc, and is one of the arc's largest volcanoes, located in a remote wilderness approximately east of Mount St. Helens. The Mount Adams Wilderness consists of the upper and western part of the volcano's cone. The eastern side of the mountain is designated as part of the territory of the Yakama Nation. Midway High Lakes Area
Midway High Lakes Area, also known as High Lakes Area, is a United States Forest Service–designated area located in Washington (state), Washington’s Cascade Mountains. It lies on a high plateau on Mount Adams (Washington), Mount Adams' northwestern flank. It is between the Goat Rocks on the north and Mount Hood to the south and contains Takhlakh Lake along with several other lakes. The area offers five scenic high elevation lakes all within a radius. It is administered by the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Rafting
Rafting and whitewater rafting are recreational outdoor activities which use an inflatable raft to navigate a river or other body of water. This is often done on whitewater or different degrees of rough water. Dealing with risk is often a part of the experience. This activity as an adventure sport has become popular since the 1950s, if not earlier, evolving from individuals paddling to rafts with double-bladed paddles or oars to multi-person rafts propelled by single-bladed paddles and steered by a person at the stern, or by the use of oars. Rafting on certain sections of rivers is considered an extreme sport and can be fatal, while other sections are not so extreme or difficult. Riffe Lake
Riffe Lake is a long reservoir on the Cowlitz River in the U.S. state of Washington. It was created in with the construction of Mossyrock Dam by Tacoma City Light (now Tacoma Power). Originally named Mossyrock Lake, then later as Davisson Lake after a utilities commissioner in Tacoma, the lake was renamed in 1976 after the community of Riffe, which was inundated by the lake. The residents of Kosmos and Nesika were also relocated as the lake's water level would submerge all of Nesika and much of Kosmos. The lake contains species of fish including rainbow and brown trout, landlocked coho, bass both large mouth and small mouth, bluegill, crappie, and perch. In 2017, Tacoma Power lowered the maximum water level of the lake by due to concerns that the Mossyrock Dam could fail during a major seismic event and cause catastrophic flooding.
