Cis-Lunar
Cis-Lunar was established to make computer-controlled closed-circuit automatic rebreathers for scuba diving. Some of its production models were in a streamlined casing. The firm's first plan was to develop spacesuit kit. The dot com crash in early 2000 prevented Cis-Lunar from financing mass production of the MK5 rebreather. The MK5 included design elements aimed at preventing system and mission failures. The word ''cis-lunar'' came from Latin and means "on this side of the moon" or "not beyond the moon", and may refer to the scuba sets described here, or it may refer generically to space travel or astronomy. In 2005, Poseidon, a Swedish diving equipment manufacturer that is a wholly owned subsidiary of DP Scandinavia, acquired Cis-Lunar's technology and retained its founder, Bill Stone of Stone Aerospace, to lead an international engineering team to design a new closed circuit rebreather, the Cis-Lunar Mark VI Discovery. William Stone (caver)
William C. "Bill" Stone (born December 7, 1952) is an American engineer, caver and explorer, known for exploring deep caves, sometimes with autonomous underwater vehicles. He has participated in over 40 international expeditions and is president and CEO of Stone Aerospace. Biography Stone grew up in Pennsylvania. He was an active caver in the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Outing Club while studying for a B.S. in Civil Engineering, awarded in 1974. In 1976, while studying engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, Stone took part in an expedition to the Sistema Huautla in Oaxaca, Mexico, where his group set a new penetration depth record of . Rebreather
A rebreather is a breathing apparatus that absorbs the carbon dioxide of a user's breathing, exhaled breath to permit the rebreathing (recycling) of the substantially unused oxygen content, and unused inert content when present, of each breath. Oxygen is added to replenish the amount metabolised by the user. This differs from open-circuit breathing apparatus, where the exhaled gas is discharged directly into the environment. The purpose is to extend the breathing endurance of a limited gas supply, and, for covert military use by frogmen or observation of underwater life, eliminating the bubbles produced by an open circuit system and in turn not scaring wildlife being filmed. Oxygen Sensor
An oxygen sensor (or lambda sensor, where lambda refers to air–fuel equivalence ratio, usually denoted by λ) or probe or sond, is an electronic device that measures the proportion of oxygen (O2) in the gas or liquid being analysed. It was developed by Robert Bosch GmbH during the late 1960s under the supervision of Dr. Günter Bauman. The original sensing element is made with a thimble-shaped zirconia ceramic coated on both the exhaust and reference sides with a thin layer of platinum and comes in both heated and unheated forms. Richard Pyle
Richard Lawrence Pyle, Ph.D. (born 24 March 1967) is a scuba diver and ichthyologist working on Hawaii. Pyle discovered the principle of " Pyle stops" when decompressing from many deep dives in search of new species of fish, and has identified hundreds of new species. He is the author of over 130 publications. Scuba Diving
Scuba diving is a mode of underwater diving whereby divers use breathing equipment that is completely independent of a surface air supply.
