Circular Head
Circular Head Council is a local government body in Tasmania covering the far north-west mainland. It is classified as a rural local government area with a population of 8,066, and its major towns and localities include Arthur River, Marrawah and Stanley, with Smithton being the largest and principal town. The origin of the name “Circular Head” is unknown. History and attributes Circular Head was established on 1 January 1907, the boundaries were altered in 1993 as part of a reorganisation. The region includes the smaller islands immediately off the north-west tip of the state including Robbins Island, Hunter Island and Three Hummock Island. Circular Head is classified as rural, agricultural and large (RAL) under the Australian Classification of Local Governments. Robbins Island (Tasmania)
Robbins Island is a island located in Bass Strait, lying off the northwest coast of Tasmania, Australia. The island, separated from the Tasmanian mainland by a highly tidal area known as Robbins Passage, lies south to the adjacent Walker Island. Robbins Island is the seventh largest island of Tasmania and is the largest freehold island in Tasmania. Over the years Robbins Island has changed ownership and to this day remains privately owned. Three Hummock Island
The Three Hummock Island, part of the Hunter Island Group, is a granite island, located in the Bass Strait near King Island, lying off the north-west coast of Tasmania, Australia. The island is named after its three most prominent hills, North, Middle and South Hummock, the latter being the highest with an elevation of above mean sea level. Part of the island is a nature reserve, with the rest a pastoral lease where farming took place from the mid-1800s to at least the mid-1970s. The focus of human settlement on the island is the homestead at Chimney Corner at the westernmost point. There is an automated lighthouse at Cape Rochon in the north-east, as well as roads, three airstrips, fencing and a wharf. Wiltshire is a locality and small rural community in the local government area of Circular Head, in the North West region of Tasmania. It is located about east of the town of Smithton. The Bass Highway passes through from south-east to north-west. The Black River forms part of the southern boundary, while Bass Strait forms most of the eastern and northern boundaries. The 2016 census determined a population of 36 for the state suburb of Wiltshire. History Previously known as Wiltshire Junction, it is believed to be named after Wiltshire in England. Walker Island (Northern Tasmania)
The Walker Island, sometimes also Walker's Island, is a island located in Bass Strait, lying off the northwest coast of Tasmania, Australia. The island, separated from the Tasmanian mainland by a highly tidal area known as Robbins Passage, lies north of the adjacent Robbins Island. Access to Walker Island is available via the Walker Island Airport. The island, together with the adjacent Robbins Island, has been privately owned by the Hammond family since 1961. In 2016 it was reported that the family graze approximately 7,000 head of Wagyu cattle on both islands, and mainland Tasmania. Trefoil Island
Trefoil Island (in palawa kani : Titima), officially known as titima / Trefoil Island, is an island with an area of 115.79 ha, in south-eastern Australia. It is part of Tasmania’s Trefoil Island Group, lying close to Cape Grim, Tasmania's most north-westerly point, in Bass Strait. It is owned by the Trefoil Island Aboriginal Cooperative and is home to an estimated 1.5 million breeding pairs of short-tailed shearwaters, which are subject to annual muttonbirding activities.
