Cipriano Biyehima Kihangire (19 March 1918 – 1 November 1990), was a Ugandan Roman Catholic priest who served as the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Gulu, from 19 December 1968 until 9 January 1988. Prior to that, he served as the Auxiliary Bishop of Gulu from 12 November 1962 until 20 January 1964, Bishop of the Diocese of the Uganda Military from 20 January 1964 until 5 January 1985 and Bishop of the Diocese of Hoima from 9 August 1965 until 19 December 1968. Bunyoro Sub-region
Bunyoro sub-region is a region in Western Uganda that consists of the following districts: * Buliisa District * Hoima District * Kibaale District * Kiryandongo District * Masindi District The area covered by the above districts is coterminous with the traditional Bunyoro Kingdom. Milton Obote abolished the traditional kingdoms in Uganda in 1967. When Yoweri Museveni re-established them in 1993, Bunyoro re-constituted itself. The sub-region is home mainly to the Banyoro ethnic group. The people of Bunyoro are called Banyoro (singular: Munyoro). The Banyoro speak Runyoro, a Bantu language. Runyoro closely related to Rutooro, spoken by the people of the neighboring Toro sub-region. The language is often referred to as Runyoro/Rutooro. According to the 2002 national census, the Bunyoro sub-region was home to an estimated 0.75 million people at that time. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Hoima ( la, Hoiman(us)) is a diocese located in the city of Hoima in the Ecclesiastical province of Mbarara in Uganda. The Diocese of Hoima, whose evangelization was spearheaded by the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers), was erected on 9 August 1965, being made up of areas cut from the then Fort Portal Diocese and Lubaga Archdiocese. It started with 7 Parishes, there are now 36. The first bishop was Cipriano Biyehima Kihangire, who later became the first African Bishop of Gulu and died on 1 November 1990. Albert Edward Baharagate succeeded him on 5 October 1969. He retired on 9 March 1991. Deogratias Muganwa Byabazaire succeeded Baharagate on 9 Mar 1991, serving as bishop until his death on 8 February 2014.
