Cinemaware
Cinemaware was a video game developer and publisher that released several titles in the 1980s based on various film themes. The company was resurrected in 2000, before being acquired by eGames in 2005. Cinemaware Corp. (1986–1991) The company was founded in January 1986 by Phyllis and Robert “Bob” Jacob. Cinemaware's first title was ''Defender of the Crown'', a strategy computer game originally released for the Commodore Amiga. Bob Jacob was a film buff, and Cinemaware released other popular games based on classic film genres that emphasized action, graphics, and ease of play. Its games generally debuted on the most graphically powerful home computers of the era, the Amiga, Apple IIGS, and Atari ST, and then ported to others, such as the Commodore 64, PC (running under MS-DOS), and the Nintendo Entertainment System. Defender Of The Crown
''Defender of the Crown'' is a strategy computer game designed by Kellyn Beck. It was Cinemaware's first game, and was originally released for the Commodore Amiga in 1986, setting a new standard for graphic quality in home computer games. In 1987 it was ported to the Commodore 64, Atari ST, MS-DOS, and Macintosh. It was later ported to the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Amstrad CPC, Apple IIGS, CDTV, CD-i, Atari Jaguar and Intellivision. An unofficial ZX Spectrum port was also produced. A sequel, ''Defender of the Crown II'', was released in 1993 for the CDTV and Amiga CD32. Two remakes have been released: '' Robin Hood: Defender of the Crown'' in 2003 and ''Defender of the Crown: Heroes Live Forever'' in 2007. It Came From The Desert
''It Came from the Desert'' is a 1989 action-adventure game by Cinemaware. It was originally released for the Amiga, but later ported to MS-DOS, as well as released in distinctly different forms to consoles. The TurboGrafx-16 release is distinctly different from the computer versions, in terms of gameplay and presentation. An expansion set ''Antheads: It Came from the Desert II'' was released in 1990. The game is inspired by dozens of 1950s monster movies especially the 1954 mutant-ant classic ''Them!'', with the title referencing the 1953 horror film, ''It Came from Outer Space''. The game is a non-linear combination of dialogue boxes and several types of action scenes, typical of contemporary Cinemaware releases. Premise The player assumes the role of Dr. Greg Bradley who comes to remote Lizard Breath, California on June 1, 1951. Wings (1990 Video Game)
''Wings'' is a World War I video game developed and published by Cinemaware. It was released for the Amiga in 1990. The action sequences are similar in style to those of the 1927 silent film ''Wings''. An enhanced version was released for the Game Boy Advance as ''Wings Advance'' in 2002. A remake of the original, ''Wings! Remastered'', was published in 2014 and 2015 for Windows, MacOS, Android, and iOS. Gameplay ''Wings'' has a mixture of gameplay styles including 3D dog fights, top down bombing missions, and diagonally-scrolling strafing sections. It is action oriented, but features the story narrative and atmospheric presentation that typified many of Cinemaware's titles. ''The King of Chicago'' is a 1986 action-adventure game, action-adventure video game by Doug Sharp. Based on numerous Cinema of the United States, Hollywood gangster, mobster film, movies, this game is set in the 1930s, but some sequences towards the end of the game take place in 1986. The Macintosh version of the game is animated using Clay animation, claymation, while other versions utilize drawn graphics. Description The player starts in Chicago with a small mafia-type mob and follow Al Capone in being the mob-king of the city. The goal of the game is to increase the size of one's gang in order to take over all mobster activity in the city. The player must do this by a certain date in order to be included in the formation of the New York City, New York syndicate.
