Cinematic Void
Cinematic Void is a monthly film screening series with live events in Los Angeles at the Los Feliz 3, the Egyptian Theatre, and the Aero Theatre through the American Cinematheque. Created by James Branscome in 2016 with the guidance of Beyond Fest programmer Grant Moninger, Cinematic Void screens strange, obscure, and cult films of all genres. Screening events often include clip shows, special guests, and contests. Sub-series Cinematic Void has several themed sub-series: Camp Void, Voidentines, January Giallo, the Cinematic Void Up All Night virtual series, and programming during Beyond Fest. Partners Cinematic Void is partnered with the American Cinematheque and has partnered with film distributors Severin Films, Arrow Video, and Vinegar Syndrome for film restoration premieres. Egyptian Theatre
Egyptian-style theatres are based on the traditional and historic design elements of Ancient Egypt. The first Egyptian Theatre to be constructed in the US – which inspired many of the identically-named theatres that followed it – was Grauman's Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, California. For several years, Hollywood developer Charles E. Toberman attempted to convince Sid Grauman to locate in Hollywood. During a meeting, Sid told Mr. Toberman of his desire to build a theatre of Egyptian design. Mr. Toberman then secured a piece of property on Hollywood Boulevard, just east of McCadden Place. The architectural firm of Meyer & Holler were hired to design the theatre. The result was Grauman's Egyptian Theatre with a seating of 1770. The approach to the theatre was through a courtyard in an ornate style evoking ancient Egypt, while inside, the stage was flanked by carved columns and models of the Sphinx. Aero Theatre
The Aero Theatre is a single-screen movie theater in Santa Monica, California, built in 1939 and opened in 1940. History Named in tribute to the aerospace industry, the Aero Theatre was built by aviation pioneer Donald W. Douglas of the Douglas Aircraft Company, serving as a 24-hour movie house for his employees that worked at a nearby plant. The French Normandy-style theater, designed by P.M. Woolpert, cost $45,000 to build, and originally seated 678 people. By the late 1980s, the Aero was one of Los Angeles' last repertory theaters, regularly programming double features. However, by the end of the 1990s, the theater, then owned by Chris Allen, had fallen on hard times and decreased attendance. American Cinematheque
The American Cinematheque is an independent, nonprofit cultural organization in Los Angeles, California, United States dedicated exclusively to the public presentation of the moving image in all its forms. The Cinematheque was created in 1981 as an offshoot of the annual Filmex Los Angeles Film Festival, which ran every year from 1971 to 1983. After five years of fundraising and planning, the Cinematheque launched its first series of screenings in 1987. An arrow is a fin-stabilized projectile launched by a bow. Cellulose acetate film, or safety film, is used in photography as a base material for photographic emulsions. It was introduced in the early 20th century by film manufacturers and intended as a safe film base replacement for unstable and highly flammable Nitrocellulose#Film, nitrate film. List Of Mobile Movie Screening Clubs In Los Angeles
There are many mobile movie screening clubs that are generally based around a different nationality or film genre that will take over venues in LA in their off hours to stage screening-based events often with live music or speakers. They will do morning matinees or midnight movie marathons which draw crowds to venues with already booked schedules. The predominant venues that host these events are The Vintage Vista Theater, Bob Baker Marionette Theater, and the Cinefamily theater (before it was shut down). Specific clubs will operate out of other venues like the Zebulon Cafe Concert, The Downtown Independent, Aero Theater, Los Feliz 3, Egyptian Theatre, and Bearded Lady’s Mystic Museum.
