Melbourne tram route 1 is operated by Yarra Trams on the Melbourne tram network from East Coburg to South Melbourne Beach. The 13.2 kilometre route is operated out of Brunswick depot with Z and B class trams . History The line between East East Coburg and South Melbourne Beach via Sturt Street was allocated Route 1 on 13 September 1953. However, route 1 had been used on a few different routes prior to this date. When route numbers were introduced into Melbourne's electric tramways as a trial on 19 December 1928, route 1 was allocated to the service between East Coburg and Elsternwick. The Carlton Crew
The Carlton Crew is a criminal organisation based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, which was formed in the late 1970s and named after the Melbourne suburb in which it is based, Lygon Street, Carlton, commonly called "Little Italy". The organisation was a fierce rival to the Honoured Society and the Calabrese Family, both of which were Calabrian 'Ndrangheta groups also based in Melbourne, and were additionally allies of the mostly Irish Moran family. Melbourne General Cemetery
The Melbourne General Cemetery is a large (43 hectare) necropolis located north of the city of Melbourne in the suburb of Carlton North. The cemetery is notably the resting place of four Prime Ministers of Australia, more than any other necropolis within Australia. Former Prime Minister Harold Holt's headstone is a memorial, as his remains have never been discovered. History The cemetery was established in 1852 and opened on 1 June 1853, and the Old Melbourne Cemetery (on the site of what is now the Queen Victoria Market) was closed the next year. Victorian Trades Hall is the headquarters of the Victorian Trades Hall Council. It is located on the corner of Lygon Street and Victoria Street, just north of the Melbourne central business district, in the suburb of Carlton, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. History In 1856 the Melbourne Trades Hall Committee was formed and received a grant of land from premier John O'Shanassy to build the Melbourne Trades Hall. Toto's Pizza House (Toto's) was the first pizzeria established in Melbourne, Australia, now a small chain of Pizza stores. Toto's opened for business on 7 July 1961 in Lygon Street, Carlton, Victoria, where the business remained until closing in 2020 due to Melbourne’s COVID lockdowns. Toto's was originally owned by Salvatore Della Bruna, who operated the business in partnership with Franco Fera and in 1968 with Silvio Tuli and Salvatore Mercogliano. Borsari's Corner, Melbourne
Borsari's Corner is at the intersection of Lygon Street and Grattan Street, in Carlton, Victoria, Australia. History The corner is named after Nino Borsari, a member of the Gold medal winning Italian pursuit cycling team at the 1932 Olympics, who was competing in Australia when World War II broke out. Unable to return home, he established a bicycle repair shop on the corner in 1941. It is located by the intersection of Lygon Street and Grattan Street, in Carlton, Victoria, Australia. In the late 1940s, a neon sign of Borsari was erected, and is currently of heritage significance. Borsari was active in the local Italian community, organising cultural and welfare activities.
