Cindy Byrd
Cindy Byrd (born January 18, 1973) is an American accountant and politician. She has served as the Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector since 2019. Byrd is from Coalgate, Oklahoma. She graduated from East Central University in 1997, earning a Bachelor of Science in accounting. In 2003, she became a certified public accountant. In January 2013, Byrd became the deputy state auditor under Gary Jones. She was elected Oklahoma State Auditor in the 2018 elections. She was reelected to a second term in the 2022 elections. Early life Byrd was born and raised in Coalgate, Oklahoma the daughter of Archie and Mary Eddings. In 1991, she graduated from Coalgate High School and went on to attend East Central University. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1996. Early career In January 1997, Byrd started working for the Oklahoma State Auditor's office and in 2003 she became a certified public accountant. Oklahoma State Auditor And Inspector
The Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector is an elected Constitutional officer for the U.S. State of Oklahoma. The State Auditor and Inspector is responsible for auditing and prescribing bookkeeping standards of all government agencies and county treasurers within Oklahoma. The office in its current form is a consolidation of the office of State Auditor with that of the office of State Examiner and Inspector, both of which dated back to statehood in 1907. The two positions were combined in 1979 after passage of State Question 510 in 1975. Tom Daxon was the first person to hold the combined office and the first Republican as all previous occupants of either position were Democrats. The 13th State Auditor and Inspector is Cindy Byrd, who began her four-year term in 2019.
