Cincinnati Silverbacks
The Cincinnati Silverbacks was an indoor soccer club based in Cincinnati, Ohio that competed in the National Professional Soccer League. History They performed under the leadership of All-Star goalkeeper Carlos Pena. Other star players included Gino DiFlorio (who scored a team record 10 points in his Silverback debut against rival Cleveland Crunch), Franklin McIntosh, Shawn Medved, and Dennis Brose. Games were held at the Cincinnati Gardens for their first two seasons before moving downtown along with the Cincinnati Cyclones where they would compete at The Crown (now known as US Bank Arena) for their final year of competition. Despite their performance and fan support, the Silverbacks were discontinued due to not generating revenue. Heritage Bank Center
Heritage Bank Center is an indoor arena located in downtown Cincinnati, next to the Great American Ball Park. It was completed in September 1975 and named Riverfront Coliseum because of its placement next to Riverfront Stadium. In 1997, the facility became known as The Crown, and in 1999, it changed its name again to Firstar Center after Firstar Bank assumed naming rights. In 2002, following Firstar's merger with U.S. Bank, the arena took on the name U.S. Bank Arena and kept that name until 2019. The arena seats 17,556 people and is the largest indoor arena in the Greater Cincinnati region with of space. The arena underwent a $14 million renovation project in 1997. Scott Cannon
Scott Cannon (born July 22, 1968 in Evansville, Indiana) is an American former soccer player who played three seasons in Major League Soccer, two in the American Professional Soccer League, three in the National Professional Soccer League and at least four in the USISL and USL. He was the 1999 USL Defender of the Year and a two time USL All Star. High school and college Cannon grew up in Evansville, Indiana, attending Reitz Memorial High School where he won 3 State Championships and was a 1985 and 1986 NSCAA High School All-American soccer player. He then went on to attend University of Evansville, playing on the men’s soccer team from 1986 to 1990. Bernie Lilavois
Bernie Lilavois (born August 31, 1970 in Far Rockaway, New York) is an American soccer forward who played two seasons in the American Professional Soccer League, one in the USISL, one in the USL A-League, four in the Continental Indoor Soccer League, six in the National Professional Soccer League, and four in the Major Indoor Soccer League. He was the head coach of the Stockton Cougars in the Professional Arena Soccer League and the head coach of the US National Arena Soccer Team. He is currently the head coach and a managing partner for the Ontario Fury. Player Youth Lilavois grew up in Buena Park, California. He attended La Salle High School in Pasadena, California where he holds the school's record for goal scoring. He is a member of the La Salle Hall of Fame. Matt Kmosko
Matthew W. Kmosko (born January 8, 1972 in Ship Bottom, New Jersey) is a former U.S. soccer defender who played three and a half seasons in Major League Soccer. He also earned three caps with the U.S. national team in 1992. In January 2023, he was criminally convicted of aggravated menacing in the Athens County Municipal Court for threatening a special needs student-worker at Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio. High school and college Kmosko attended Southern Regional High School in Ocean County, New Jersey. He graduated in 1990 and entered Hartwick College. Kmosko played on the Hartwick soccer team from 1990 to 1994. He was a team captain his senior year and finished his four-year career with a 41-27-8 record. Lyndon Hooper
Lyndon Hooper (born May 30, 1966) is a Canadian former professional soccer player and former assistant coach of the Toronto Lynx soccer team of the United Soccer Leagues First Division. He was a prominent Canadian international. Club career Guyana-born but moving to Ottawa at age 11, Hooper turned professional in 1987 with the Ottawa Intrepid of the Canadian Soccer League. Jim Foley (soccer)
Jim Foley (born October 27, 1946) is a former award-winning slotback in the Canadian Football League. He was drafted by the Montreal Alouettes in the 1970 CFL College Draft, winning the CFL's Rookie of the Year Award in 1971, and later won the 1975 Most Outstanding Canadian Award and two Grey Cups with the Ottawa Rough Riders. Career He attended St. Dunstan's University, later to become the University of Prince Edward Island, and played football from 1966 to 1969. George Fernandez is a retired American soccer defender who played professionally in the Major Indoor Soccer League and National Professional Soccer League. He coached in both the Continental Indoor Soccer League and NPSL and was the 1994 CISL Coach of the Year. Playing career Youth Born in San Francisco, Fernandez spent much of his youth in Hawaii. Chuck Codd (born in Torrance, California) is a former U.S. soccer defender who played one season in the Western Soccer Alliance, six in the National Professional Soccer League, two in the USISL and two in the USL PDL. He is currently the assistant coach of the Baylor University women's soccer team. Anthony "Tony" Bono is a retired American soccer player who played professionally in the Major Indoor Soccer League, American Indoor Soccer Association, National Professional Soccer League and Lone Star Soccer Alliance. Bono graduated from Frankford High School, where he was a 1979 First-Team and 1980 Second-Team All-State soccer player. Bono then attended Drexel University, where he was a 1984 first-team All-American soccer player. In 1985, the Minnesota Strikers of the Major Indoor Soccer League drafted Bono in the third round. Mike "Goose" Gosselin is a retired American soccer defender who earned one cap with the U.S. national team in 1992. He played professionally in the National Professional Soccer League and USISL. Youth Gosselin grew up in the Pacific Northwest. He was goalkeeper for Kentwood High School (Kent, Washington) as a freshman. He then attended Jefferson High School where he was the school's goalkeeper his sophomore year. Thomas Jefferson won the State Champion that year.
