Ciarán Lyng
Ciarán Lyng (born 9 July 1986) is an All Star-nominated Irish sportsperson. He plays Gaelic football and hurling for St Martin's and Gaelic football for the Wexford senior inter-county team, and has played international rules football for Ireland. He has also played association football in the English Football League and at under-age level for Ireland. Early and personal life Lyng grew up as one of four brothers in Wexford, playing football, hurling, handball and soccer. His brother Diarmuid Lyng plays hurling for Wexford. Soccer career Lyng played soccer almost thirty times for Ireland at underage level. He had a number of offers from British clubs such as Premier League Arsenal and Derby County but opted to move to Preston North End. Lyng moved to Shrewsbury Town in December 2004. GAA GPA All Stars Awards
The Gaelic Athletic Association-Gaelic Players' Association All Stars Awards (often known simply as the All Stars) are awarded annually to the best player in each of the 15 playing positions in Gaelic football and hurling. Additionally, one player in each code is selected as Player of the Year. The awards were instituted in 1971. Since 2011 they have been presented jointly by the Gaelic Athletic Association and the representative body for inter-county players, the Gaelic Players Association. Each player who receives a nomination is given a medallion marking the milestone. It is considered "the most coveted sporting award scheme in the country". Dual Players
Dual player or dual star is a term used in Hiberno-English to describe someone who competes in multiple sports — for example, in Victorian Ireland, cricket and hurling. The term today in Gaelic games typically describes a male player who plays both Gaelic football and hurling or, if a female player, a player of ladies' Gaelic football and camogie. The player does not necessarily have to play at the same standard in both sports. The International Rules Series is a senior men's international rules football competition between the Australia international rules football team (selected by the Australian Football League) and the Ireland international rules football team (selected by the Gaelic Athletic Association). The series is played biannually over two Test matches in November after the completion of the AFL Grand Final and the All-Ireland Football Final, which are both traditionally played in late September, and the winner is the team with the highest cumulative score over both Tests; however, there have been six unscheduled years since 2009. The Leinster Senior Football Championship, known simply as the Leinster Championship and shortened to Leinster SFC, is an annual inter-county Gaelic football competition organised by the Leinster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA).
