Ciara Griffin
Ciara Griffin (born 10 January 1994) is an Irish rugby union player from Ballymacelligott, County Kerry. She plays flanker for UL Bohemians and Munster and has captained Ireland since 2018, including the 2021 Women's Six Nations Championship. She works as a primary school teacher. Club career Griffin's father Denis is a stalwart of Castleisland Rugby Club and, at her behest, set up its first girls' team when she was 14. She moved to Tralee RFC for senior competition and joined All Ireland League club UL Bohemians at the start of the 2016/17 when she helped the Limerick side lift the Women's AIL for the first time since 2013, defeating holders Old Belvedere in the final. St Mary's College RFC
St Mary's College Rugby Football Club is a rugby union club based in South Dublin, Ireland, playing in Division 1B of the All-Ireland League. The club was founded in 1900 by former pupils of St. Mary's College, Dublin and was originally known as Old St Mary's. They club won the Leinster Senior Cup for the first time in 1958. In 2000 they won the AIB League for the first time under the captaincy of Trevor Brennan. The club was formerly sited at College Drive, Templeogue from 1955 until the 1970s, including clubhouse and grounds which have since been developed as ''Fortfield Square'' apartments. In the 1970s, the club moved to Templeville Road to rugby grounds formerly owned and used by Templeogue College, the Holy Ghost Fathers sister school of St Mary's College. 2017 Women's Rugby World Cup
The 2017 Women's Rugby World Cup was the eighth edition of the Women's Rugby World Cup and was held in Ireland in August 2017. New Zealand became the 2017 champions by beating England 41–32 in the final on 26 August. Matches were held in Dublin and Belfast. The pool stages were held at University College Dublin with the semi finals and finals held at Queen's University and Kingspan Stadium in Belfast. The tournament took place three rather than four years after the previous Women's Rugby World Cup because World Rugby wanted to move away from clashing with other events. The event returned to a four-year cycle after 2017. The 2017 tournament set attendance records for a Women's World Cup. The tournament drew 45,412 fans over 30 matches. The final was played in front of a crowd of 17,115, and the pool matches sold out. This was the last edition of the tournament under the "Women's Rugby World Cup" name.
