Ché (band)
Ché was an American stoner rock band founded by former Kyuss drummers Brant Bjork and Alfredo Hernández, and former Unida bassist Dave Dinsmore. Ché released their only LP, ''Sounds of Liberation'', in 2000. Overview Though best known at the time of the album's release as a drummer, Ché featured Bjork as the band's vocalist and guitarist. Another of Bjork's bands, Brant Bjork and the Bros, covered many of Ché's songs during their live performances, with Alfredo Hernández making occasional guest appearances with the band. According to Bjork, he had been friends with Hernández and Dinsmore for years; they began playing together in the late 1990s after Hernández left Queens of the Stone Age. Stoner Metal
Stoner rock, also known as stoner metal or stoner doom, is a rock music fusion genre that combines elements of doom metal with psychedelic rock and acid rock. The genre emerged during the early 1990s and was pioneered foremost by Kyuss and Sleep. Characteristics Stoner rock is typically slow-to-mid tempo and features a heavily distorted, groove-laden bass-heavy sound, melodic vocals, and "retro" production. Due to the similarities between stoner and sludge metal, there is often a crossover between the two genres. This hybrid has traits of both styles, but generally lacks stoner metal's laid back atmosphere and its usage of psychedelia. Bands such as Weedeater, High on Fire and Electric Wizard creatively fuse both styles. Queens of the Stone Age (commonly abbreviated QOTSA) is an American rock band formed in 1996 in Palm Desert, California. The band was founded by vocalist and guitarist Josh Homme, who has been the only constant member throughout multiple line-up changes. The current line-up consists of Homme alongside Troy Van Leeuwen (guitar, lap steel, keyboard, percussion, backing vocals), Michael Shuman (bass guitar, keyboard, backing vocals), Dean Fertita (keyboards, guitar, percussion, backing vocals), and Jon Theodore (drums, percussion). Brant Bjork (born March 19, 1973) is an American musician, singer, songwriter and record producer. He is perhaps best known as the drummer and founder of the influential Californian stoner rock band Kyuss. Bjork played in Vista Chino, along with former Kyuss vocalist John Garcia, up until October 2014, at which point Nick Oliveri announced that there was a falling out and that Bjork and Garcia would continue working on their solo projects. Bjork is currently the guitarist and co-founder of the stoner rock power trio, Stöner. He is one of the more notable figures in the stoner rock and Palm Desert scene and maintains a prolific solo career with over a dozen released albums. Alfredo Hernández
Alfredo Hernández is an American drummer best known as a former member of desert rock bands Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Brant Bjork and the Bros and Yawning Man, and as a current member of the band, Avon. Career Hernández joined Kyuss in 1994, replacing previous drummer Brant Bjork who had left the band due to personal reasons. Kyuss' Josh Homme stated at the time that Hernández was the only drummer considered for the job. He appeared on the band's final studio album '' ...And the Circus Leaves Town''. Kyuss soon went on indefinite hiatus in October 1995. Hernandez subsequently drummed on Queens of the Stone Age's self-titled debut record released in 1998. Unida () is an American stoner rock band, originally formed in 1998 by John Garcia of Kyuss and Slo Burn. History Formation, Dozer split, and ''Coping with the Urban Coyote'' (1998–1999) Following the dissolution of Kyuss in 1995, former vocalist John Garcia became part of Slo Burn. Garcia already knew future Unida members Arthur Seay and Miguel (Mike) Cancino, considering them "exceptional" musicians and song writers; therefore, after the end of Slo Burn in 1998, he reached out to them to start a band. Garcia later reflected that "I really wanted to jam with them and I knew that they could play and it was basically as simple as that."
