Chutes-de-la-Chaudière is a provincial electoral district in the Chaudière-Appalaches region of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. The district is located within the city of Lévis, and comprises part of the borough of Les Chutes-de-la-Chaudière-Est (the part that is south of Autoroute 20) and all of the borough of Les Chutes-de-la-Chaudière-Ouest. It was created for the 1989 election from parts of Beauce-Nord and Lévis electoral districts. For that first election only, its name was Les Chutes-de-la-Chaudière. Lévis, Quebec
Lévis () is a city in eastern Quebec, Canada, located on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, opposite Quebec City. A ferry links Old Quebec with Old Lévis, and two bridges, the Quebec and the Pierre-Laporte, connect western Lévis with Quebec City. The population in July 2017 was 144,147. Its current incarnation was founded on January 1, 2002, as the result of a merger among ten cities, including the older city of Lévis founded in 1861. Lévis is also the name of a territory equivalent to a regional county municipality (TE) and census division (CD) of Quebec, coextensive with the city of Lévis. Its geographical code is 25 as a census division, and 251 as an RCM-equivalent territory. Yvan Loubier
Yvan Loubier (born April 10, 1959 in Montreal, Quebec) is a Canadian politician and one of the founders of the Bloc Québécois. He was a Bloc Québécois member of the House of Commons of Canada representing the district of Saint-Hyacinthe—Bagot, from the since he was first elected in the 1993 election, until his resignation on February 21, 2007. Prior to being elected he was a consultant in economic policies and international trade and was an economist. At the time of his resignation, he was chair of the Subcommittee on Fiscal Imbalance and is the Bloc's Finance critic. He has also in the past been the critic of Western Economic Diversification, International Financial Institutions, Indian Affairs and Northern Development, Intergovernmental Affairs, and Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness. Louis-Hébert (provincial Electoral District)
Louis-Hébert is a provincial electoral district in the Capitale-Nationale region of Quebec, Canada. It consists of part of the Sainte-Foy–Sillery–Cap-Rouge borough of Quebec City (specifically the neighbourhoods of Cap-Rouge, Champigny, Jouvence, Quartier Laurentien, Lorette, Les Grands-Déserts and parts of Pointe-de-Sainte-Foy and Place-Notre-Dame), as well as all of Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures. It was created for the 1966 election from parts of Québec-Comté and Québec-Ouest and a small part of Portneuf electoral districts. In the change from the 2001 to the 2011 electoral map, it gained Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures from La Peltrie; it also gained part of Quebec City from La Peltrie, but lost part of the city to Jean-Talon. La Peltrie
La Peltrie is a provincial electoral district in the Capitale-Nationale region of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It notably includes parts of Quebec City as well as the city of L'Ancienne-Lorette. It was created for the 1981 election from a part of Chauveau electoral district. In the change from the 2001 to the 2011 electoral map, it lost Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures to Louis-Hébert and parts of Quebec City to Louis-Hébert and Chauveau, but gained some cities and municipalities from Chauveau and Portneuf. Portneuf is a provincial electoral district in the Capitale-Nationale region of Quebec, Canada, which elects members to the National Assembly. It notably includes the municipalities of Saint-Raymond, Pont-Rouge, Donnacona and Neuville. It was created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada). In the change from the 2001 to the 2011, it lost some territory to Laviolette and La Peltrie electoral districts. The Natural Law Party of Canada (NLPC) was the Canadian branch of the international Natural Law Party founded in 1992 by a group of educators, business leaders, and lawyers who practised Transcendental Meditation. Description and history The magician Doug Henning was senior vice president of NLPC, and ran as the party's candidate for the former Toronto riding of Rosedale in the 1993 federal election, finishing sixth out of ten candidates. The New Democratic Party of Quebec (french: Nouveau Parti démocratique du Québec; NPDQ) is a federalist and social-democratic provincial political party in Quebec, Canada. The party is a revival of the comparable Nouveau Parti Démocratique du Québec, which existed in various forms as the federal New Democratic Party (NDP)'s provincial affiliate in Quebec from 1963 to 1991. 1994 Quebec General Election
The 1994 Quebec general election was held on September 12, 1994, to elect members of the National Assembly of Quebec. The Parti Québécois, led by Jacques Parizeau, defeated the incumbent Quebec Liberal Party, led by Premier Daniel Johnson Jr. Johnson had succeeded Robert Bourassa as Liberal leader and Premier. Both his father, Daniel Sr., and brother, Pierre-Marc, had previously served as premiers of Quebec as leaders of different parties. The election set the stage for the 1995 Quebec referendum on independence for Quebec from Canada. The referendum would see the PQ government's proposals for sovereignty very narrowly defeated. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. There are numerous reasons why someone may stand for office as an independent. Some politicians have political views that do not align with the platforms of any political party, and therefore choose not to affiliate with them. Christian Jobin
Christian Jobin (born April 7, 1952) is a Canadian politician and was the Member of Parliament (MP) for the district of Lévis-et-Chutes-de-la-Chaudière from 2003 to 2004. He has been a Liberal. Jobin was the mayor of St-Étienne-de-Lauzon from 1993 to 2001. He ran in the 1998 provincial election in Chutes-de-la-Chaudière, but was defeated. He also ran for mayor in Lévis in 2001 but he was defeated by Jean Garon. In 2003, Jobin won a by-election and became a Member of Parliament.
