The Church of San Francisco de AsÃs de la Aguada ( Spanish: ''Iglesia San Francisco de AsÃs de la Aguada'') is a parish of the Catholic Church in Aguada, Puerto Rico. It is located on the eastern end of the ''Plaza de Aguada'' (the main town square) in downtown Aguada. History The Parish of Aguada was officially established in 1692 and it has belonged to four different dioceses throughout its history. Although the current church dates to the early 20th century, different wooden church buildings have occupied the space. Aguada, Puerto Rico
Aguada (; , ), originally San Francisco de AsÃs de la Aguada, is a town and municipality of Puerto Rico, located in the western coastal valley region bordering the Atlantic Ocean, east of Rincón, west of Aguadilla and Moca; and north of Añasco and Mayagüez. It is part of the Aguadilla-Isabela-San Sebastián Metropolitan Statistical Area. Aguada's population is spread over 17 ''barrios'' and Aguada Pueblo (the downtown area and the administrative center of the city). The Roman Catholic Diocese of Mayagüez ( la, Dioecesis Maiaguezensis) is an ecclesiastical territory or diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in the United States and consists of the western part of the island of Puerto Rico, an American commonwealth. Aguada barrio-pueblo is a small barrio and the administrative center (seat) of Aguada, a municipality of Puerto Rico. Its population in 2010 was 1,324. Aguada barrio-pueblo has two subdivisions: California and Rosario. 1918 San FermÃn Earthquake
The 1918 San FermÃn earthquake, also known as the Puerto Rico earthquake of 1918, struck the island of Puerto Rico at on October 11. The earthquake measured 7.1 on the moment magnitude scale and IX (''Violent'') on the Mercalli intensity scale. The mainshock epicenter occurred off the northwestern coast of the island, somewhere along the Puerto Rico Trench. The earthquake triggered a tsunami with waves measured that swept the west coast of the island.
