''Church magazine'' was a professional quarterly of pastoral theology and ministry published by the National Pastoral Life Center. It was written especially for pastors, parish leaders, and members of diocesan offices. Its founding editor was Margaret O’Brien Steinfels, who began editing the magazine in 1986. Pastoral Theology
Pastoral theology is the branch of practical theology concerned with the application of the study of religion in the context of regular church ministry. This approach to theology seeks to give practical expression to theology. Normally viewed as an 'equipping' of ministers, practical theology is often considered to be more pragmatic than speculative, indeed, essentially a practical science. Hence its main interests are in those areas of theology which will aid clergy in ministry. Topics tend to include homiletics, pastoral care, sacramental theology, and ethics. National Pastoral Life Center
The Catholic Common Ground Initiative is an intra-ecclesial relations effort launched in 1996 by the National Pastoral Life Center. Its original goal was to dialogue with dissenting Catholics on a variety of unresolved issues that came about in the years following the Second Vatican Council. One of its most notable proponents was the late Cardinal Joseph Bernardin of Chicago. This initiative was met with strong opposition from leading bishops in the United States. Cardinals William Wakefield Baum, James Aloysius Hickey, and Bernard Francis Law were especially opposed to any undesirable concessions regarding Catholic teachings on moral theology. The ''New Oxford Review'' was also opposed to it. The Catholic Media Association, formerly the Catholic Press Association of the United States and Canada, is an association of American and Canadian newspaper and media specialists specialized on reporting on the Catholic Church.
