Southern Min
Southern Min (), Minnan (Mandarin pronunciation: ) or Banlam (), is a group of linguistically similar and historically related Sinitic languages that form a branch of Min Chinese spoken in Fujian (especially the Minnan region), most of Taiwan (many citizens are descendants of settlers from Fujian), Eastern Guangdong, Hainan, and Southern Zhejiang. The Minnan dialects are also spoken by descendants of emigrants from these areas in diaspora, most notably the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York City. It is the most populous branch of Min Chinese, spoken by an estimated 48 million people in c. 2017–2018. In common parlance and in the narrower sense, Southern Min refers to the Quanzhang or Hokkien-Taiwanese variety of Southern Min originating from Southern Fujian in Mainland China. Chua Ling Fung Simon is a bodybuilder from Singapore who started off as an instructor in a gymnasium before taking up the sport full-time. In 1991, he came in third in his first participation in a national event at the under-21 National Championship (Lightweight) competition, before going international and representing Singapore at the Pro-Am Classic held in Hong Kong in 1995 where he came in ninth position. In 1997, he took his first gold medal in the 1997 Southeast Asian Games, before earning more titles in the 2000 Southeast Asian Championship and the 2002 Commonwealth Championship. Chua Phung Kim
Chua Phung Kim (; 29 April 1939 – 4 August 1990) was a Singaporean weightlifter. He was a gold medalist in weightlifting in the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games. Weightlifting career Chua first took to the sport in 1960 after being introduced to it by his elder brother, Chua Peng Kim. Chua won the silver medal at the 1961 Southeast Asian Peninsular Games (SEAP Games). Just two years later, he helped Singapore win another gold medal in the Commonwealth Games by coming in tops in the bantamweight category during the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games held in Perth, Western Australia after lifting a total of 710 lbs, a Commonwealth Games record. Datuk Chua Tee Yong (; born 19 October 1977) is a Malaysian politician and was the Member of parliament of Malaysia for the Labis constituency in the State of Johor for two terms (2008-2018). He was one of the four Vice-Presidents of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) in the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition then with the third highest votes for the party election term from 21 December 2013 until 4 November 2018.
