Chrysothrix
''Chrysothrix'' is a genus of lichen-forming fungi in the family Chrysothricaceae. They are commonly called gold dust lichens or sulfur dust lichens,Field Guide to California Lichens, Stephen Sharnoff, Yale University Press, 2014, because they are bright yellow to greenish-yellow, sometimes flecked with orange, and composed entirely of powdery soredia.Brodo, I. M., S. D. Sharnoff, and S. Sharnoff. 2001. Lichens of North America. Yale University Press: New Haven. Apothecia are never present in North American specimens. They grow on bark or rocks, generally in shaded habitats. They can sometimes be mistaken for sterile specimens of '' Chaenotheca'', which usually has pinhead apothecia on tiny stalks, or ''Psilolechia'', which usually has small, bright yellow apothecia. ''Chrysothrix chlorina'' was traditionally used as a brown dye for wool in Scandinavia. Uphof, J. C. T. 1959. Dictionary of Economic Plants. Hafner Publishing Co.: New York. Chrysothrix Flavovirens
''Chrysothrix flavovirens'' is a species of crustose and corticolous (bark-dwelling) lichen in the family Chrysotrichaceae. It was formally described as a new species in 1994 by Tor Tønsberg as the sorediate counterpart of the common and widespread '' Chrysothrix candelaris''. The type specimen was collected from Kirkeøy, Norway, where it was found growing on ''Picea abies''. It has a pale greenish-yellow thallus that contains rhizocarpic acid. The lichen is widespread in Europe, and has also been recorded from Japan and North America. In the Atlantic and Mediterranean biogeographic regions of Portugal, it prefers to grow on the acidic bark of coastal conifer Conifers are a group of conifer cone, cone-bearing Spermatophyte, seed plants, a subset of gymnosperms. Chrysothrix Bergeri
''Chrysothrix bergeri'' is a species of crustose lichen in the family Chrysotrichaceae. It is found in the southeastern United States and the Caribbean, where it grows as a bright yellow, powdery crust on the bark and wood of mostly hardwoods. Taxonomy ''Chrysothrix bergeri'' was formally described as a new species in 2020 by Scott LaGreca. The type specimen was originally collected in 1922 from Confianza Estate in Cuba. Although it had previously been mentioned in the scientific literature as an undescribed species, it had not been formally named. The distribution of the lichen extends from the southeastern United States, southwards to the Bahamas and Cuba, and eastwards to Bermuda. Although found mostly on hardwoods (usually oak), other recorded substrates include ''Casuarina equisetifolia'', ''Prunus caroliniana'', ''Suriana maritima'', ''Juniperus'', ''Pinus'', and ''Taxodium''. The specific epithet ''bergeri'' honours Franz Berger, an Austrian medical doctor and botanical col ...
