''Chronicles of the Gray House'' () is a 1925 German silent film, silent historical film, historical drama film directed by Arthur von Gerlach and starring Paul Hartmann (actor), Paul Hartmann, Rudolf Forster and Lil Dagover. It is also known as ''At the Grey House''. The narrative is set in the 17th century and follows the intrigues when the son of a feudal landowner falls in love with the daughter of one of the serfs, causing his younger brother to see an opportunity for himself. The screenplay by Thea von Harbou is based on Theodor Storm's novella ''A Chapter in the History of Grieshuus''. Erich Pommer produced the film for Universum Film AG. Principal photography took place from May 1923 to November 1924 around the Lüneburg Heath and Neubabelsberg. Josef Thomas Peterhans (4 December 1882 – 3 February 1960) was a German stage and film actor. Biography Peterhans began his stage career in 1902, aged twenty. Gertrude Welcker (16 July 1896 – 1 August 1988) was a German stage and silent film actress. She appeared in 64 films between 1917 and 1925. Biography Gertrude Welcker was born in Dresden on 16 July 1896. Her father, who was editor-in-chief and general manager of the Posener Tageblatt, died in 1909. She had a younger brother named Herbert (born 1898). Welcker visited Max Reinhardt's acting school in Berlin during the First World War. Rudolf Rittner
Rudolf Rittner (30 June 1869 – 4 February 1943) was a German actor born in Weissbach, Moravia, famous for playing knight and folk hero Florian Geyer in Gerhart Hauptmann's drama of the same name. The well-known German painter Lovis Corinth portrayed him in 1906. Only one year later, at the age of 38, Rittner being at the peak of his career retired as theatrical actor. In 1922, he returned as actor in several German movies, especially in Fritz Lang's 1924 silent masterpiece ''Die Nibelungen'' with Rittner starring as Markgraf Rüdiger von Bechlarn. When he died in 1943, Rittner left two dramas, one of them being ''Narrenglanz'' (A Fool's Glory), an allegory on modern acting. Rudolf Rittner died in Weissbach and is buried on the local cemetery.
