Chrome Dreams
''Chrome Dreams'' is a 1977 unreleased album by Neil Young, and also an acetate from that period which is claimed to be of that album. Jimmy McDonough's ''Shakey: Neil Young's Biography'' supports the claim that ''Chrome Dreams'' is indeed a bootlegged acetate with said title. A document that accompanied the acetate (which according to Young's archivist Joel Bernstein is a forgery) gave the impression that Young had officially given ''Chrome Dreams'' as the title, inspired by rumours in the press of a new album with the same title. Young is quoted as saying "What ''Chrome Dreams'' really was, was a sketch that avidBriggs drew of a grille and front of a '55 Chrysler, and if you turned it on its end, it was this beautiful chick...I called it ''Chrome Dreams''." Neil Percival Young (born November 12, 1945) is a Canadian-American singer and songwriter. After embarking on a music career in Winnipeg in the 1960s, Young moved to Los Angeles, joining Buffalo Springfield with Stephen Stills, Richie Furay and others. Rust Never Sleeps
''Rust Never Sleeps'' is an album with both studio and live tracks by Canadian American singer-songwriter Neil Young and American band Crazy Horse. It was released on June 22, 1979, by Reprise Records. Most of the album was recorded live, then overdubbed in the studio, while others originated in the studio. Young used the phrase "rust never sleeps" as a concept for his tour with Crazy Horse to avoid artistic complacency and try more progressive, theatrical approaches to performing live. History There is a story that Young wrote the song in July 1975 with the help of his friend and La Honda neighbor Taylor Phelps in the back of his DeSoto Suburban, during a time when Young was unable to sing because of an operation on his vocal cords. "Will to Love" is a song written by Neil Young that was first released on his 1977 album ''American Stars 'N Bars''. A promotional single of "Will to Love" was released, backed with a live performance of "Cortez the Killer." Background "Will to Love" had been intended for Young's unreleased ''Chrome Dreams'' album. He recorded the song alone in a single take on a two-track cassette tape, sitting in front of a fireplace playing acoustic guitar. He used a fader and applied stereo vibrato to achieve a fish sound. He also overdubbed percussion, bass and vibraphone himself. He claims to have mixed the song the same night he recorded it and it was completed in about 8 hours. Young claims to have never sung the song again after the initial recording. Bernard Alfred "Jack" Nitzsche ( '; April 22, 1937 – August 25, 2000) was an American musician, arranger, songwriter, composer, and record producer. He first came to prominence in the early 1960s as the right-hand-man of producer Phil Spector and went on to work with the Rolling Stones and Neil Young, among others. Mandolin
A mandolin ( it, mandolino ; literally "small mandola") is a stringed musical instrument in the lute family and is generally plucked with a pick. It most commonly has four courses of doubled strings tuned in unison, thus giving a total of 8 strings, although five (10 strings) and six (12 strings) course versions also exist. Frank "Poncho" Sampedro (born Manuel Francisco Sampedro de Victoria, February 25, 1949) is an American retired guitarist and member of the rock band Crazy Horse, known mainly for his longtime collaboration with singer-songwriter Neil Young. Sampedro has played and recorded with Young in many other configurations aside from Crazy Horse and earned co-writing credits on several Young songs.
