Henry FitzGerald Heard (6 October 1889 – 14 August 1971), commonly called Gerald Heard, was a British-born American historian, science writer, public lecturer, educator, and philosopher. He wrote many articles and over 35 books. Heard was a guide and mentor to numerous well-known people in the 1950s and 1960s, including author Aldous Huxley, Henry Luce, Clare Boothe Luce, and Bill Wilson, co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous. His work was a forerunner of, and influence on, the consciousness development movement that has spread in the Western world since the 1960s. Early life The son of an Anglo-Irish clergyman, Heard was born in London. He grew to be an earnest, disciplined, resolute young man. Christopher Hovelle Wood (5 November 1935 – 9 May 2015) was an English screenwriter and novelist, best known for the ''Confessions'' series of novels and films which he wrote as Timothy Lea. Under his own name, he adapted two James Bond novels for the screen: '' The Spy Who Loved Me'' (1977, with Richard Maibaum) and '' Moonraker'' (1979). Wood's many novels divide into four groups: semi-autobiographical literary fiction, historical fiction, adventure novels, and pseudonymous humorous erotica. Christopher S. Wood (born June 7, 1961) is professor in the Department of German at New York University; he is best known as an art historian. Early life and education Wood is the son of Gordon S. Wood, Pulitzer Prize winning historian of the early American republic and University professor emeritus at Brown University. His sister, Amy Wood, is a professor of history at Illinois State University. Wood was raised in Barrington, Rhode Island, attending Barrington High School. He earned an A.B. in history and literature at Harvard University, completing an honors thesis on Henry Fielding in 1983. After a year on a Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst fellowship at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich, Germany, he returned to Harvard and in 1992 received a PhD in fine arts. Professor Christopher Wood is a Welsh-born composer of sacred choral music, best known for his setting of the Requiem Mass (“The Wood Requiem”), his Missa Brevis, the Easter Oratorio "Holy Week" and the string orchestra piece "Aberfan", commissioned for the Last Night of the Welsh Proms in 2016. Wood's five-movement Missa Brevis, for choir and organ, was first performed at the sung Eucharist at St Paul's Cathedral, London on 3 August 2014. Christopher M. Wood FRSC is currently an Adjunct Professor of Zoology at the University of British Columbia and a Lifetime Distinguished University Professor, and Emeritus Professor of Biology at McMaster University. He is also a Research Professor at the University of Miami. His research is primarily concerned with Fish physiology and aquatic toxicology. He was educated at the University of British Columbia (BSc, 1968; MSc, 1971) and the University of East Anglia (PhD, 1974).
