Christopher Ward (British Politician)
Christopher John Ferguson Ward (born 26 December 1942) is a British solicitor and Conservative Party politician, who served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for only seven months after winning a by-election. His attempts to be selected for a safe seat were thwarted, and when he found a winnable marginal seat, he found his vote split by an unofficial Conservative candidate. Christopher Ward (born 18 March 1980) is a British conductor. In August 2018 he became the Music Director of Theater Aachen. Career Christopher Ward studied at Oxford University (Musicology) and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London (Conducting and Piano). During this time, he worked with Oxford University Philharmonia and Chorus, Oxford Bach Choir, New Chamber Opera and The Arcadian Singers. In 2003, Ward was awarded the position of Répétiteur Fellow at Scottish Opera and the RSAMD, Glasgow, working with Sir Richard Armstrong, Richard Farnes, and Timothy Dean. In 2004, Ward spent a period working at the Internationales Opernstudio at Zürich Opera. Christopher Ward moved to Germany in 2005 to work as Kapellmeister at Staatstheater Kassel. Christopher Ward (entomologist)
Christopher Ward (1836, Halifax – 1900, Barbon) was an English entomologist who specialised in butterflies. He wrote ''African Lepidoptera, being descriptions of new species'', published in London by Longmans, Green & Co. (1873-1875?). This quarto work in three parts has 16 pages and 18 plates, 12 of which are handcoloured. It is based on two papers Ward had previously published in the Entomologist's Monthly Magazine. These were "Descriptions of new species of Diurnal Lepidoptera From Madagascar" and "Descriptions of new species of African Diurnal Lepidoptera" (butterflies in this last work are depicted in Part 3 of ''African Lepidoptera'' but the text is omitted). This well-illustrated, rare work is an important contribution to the knowledge of the East African butterfly fauna as it contains descriptions of 55 new species chiefly from Madagascar, the Cameroons, Old Calabar and Ribé (East Africa). Christopher Ward is a British author, journalist, editor, and publisher. He is also the grandson and biographer of Jock Hume, a violinist who died in the sinking of the RMS ''Titanic'' and one of the members of the band which continued playing while the ship sank. Career Ward began his career as a journalist in 1959 working at local newspapers, the '' Driffield Times'' and the ''Newcastle Evening Chronicle''. He then moved to national daily, the ''Daily Mirror'', in 1963 where he worked as a reporter, columnist and sub-editor before becoming assistant editor at the ''Mirror'' and its sister paper the '' Sunday Mirror'' in 1976. After five years in this position, Ward left the ''Mirror'' in 1981 to become editor at the '' Daily Express'', a national daily newspaper, at age 38. Christopher Geoffrey Ward (26 March 1968) is a British chess Grandmaster (GM), chess coach, and author. He grew up in North West Kent, on the edge of Vigo Village and played his early chess at the village school chess club. Ward went on to win the British Championship in 1996, earning the GM title in the process. He is the author of two well-received books on a variation of the Sicilian Defence known as the Dragon Variation, in addition to a number of other books on chess. He is also the author of the book ''Starting Out: Rook Endings'', published by Everyman Chess (see Chess endgame literature).
