Christopher Binse
Christopher Dean "Badness" Binse (born ) is an Australian armed robber and prison escapee. His crimes include armed robberies, shooting at police and methamphetamine abuse. He has the distinction of being called "Australia's weirdest criminal" by several news publications. Binse is currently incarcerated in HM Barwon Prison in Lara, Victoria, Lara, Victoria, where he is serving a lengthy sentence in complete solitary confinement. In 1992, two Victoria Police detectives were charged with taking a $19,750 bribe to organise bail for Binse. In 2016 his life story, ''Mayhem: The Strange and Savage Saga of Christopher 'Badness' Binse'' by Matthew Thompson (writer), Matthew Thompson was published. In 2018, ''The Age'' documented some of Binse's experiences. HM Barwon Prison
HM Prison Barwon or informally Barwon Prison, an Australian high risk and maximum security prison for males, is located from the township of Lara, near Geelong, Victoria, Australia. The facility is operated by Corrections Victoria, part of the Department of Justice & Community Safety of the Government of Victoria. The prison provides accommodation and services for remand and sentenced prisoners detained under Victorian and Commonwealth legislation. Barwon Prison is located adjacent to the 559-bed medium security Marngoneet Correctional Centre, opened in 2006. Lara, Victoria
Lara is a town in Victoria, 18 km north-east of the Geelong CBD, inland from the Princes Freeway to Melbourne. Its population at the 2016 census was 16,355. History The explorers Hume and Hovell arrived at Lara on December 16, 1824, believing that they had reached Westernport Bay. They recorded that the Aboriginals described the bay as ''Djillong'' and land as ''Corayo'', suggesting origins for the names of Geelong and Corio. The area was originally named Kennedy's Creek but was also given several different names including Duck Ponds, Hovell's Creek, Cheddar, Swindon and Lara Lake.
