Christopher's Movie Matinée
''Christopher's Movie Matinée'' is a Canadian documentary film, directed by Mort Ransen and released in 1968. Depicting the youth counterculture hippie movement in the Toronto district of Yorkville, the film was unusual in that it directly engaged the teenagers as active participants rather than subjects, depicting their own debates about what kind of film Ransen should make about them and incorporating footage directly filmed by the youth with personal video cameras. Mort Ransen
Mort Ransen (August 16, 1933 – September 4, 2021) was a Canadian film and television director and screenwriter, best known for his Genie Award-winning 1995 film ''Margaret's Museum''. Ransen was born in Montreal, Quebec, and was educated at the High School of Montreal. He began his career as an actor and theatre director, later becoming a director and producer of documentary films for the National Film Board. He later left the NFB to work on his first dramatic feature film, ''Bayo''. He has also directed television, including an episode of '' Street Legal'' and three films in the '' Shades of Love'' series of romance films. Ransen was a nominee for Best Director, and winner of Best Screenplay with his cowriter Gerald Wexler, at the 16th Genie Awards for ''Margaret's Museum''. Due to the effects of dementia, Ransen chose to die with medical assistance in Salt Spring Island, British Columbia on September 4, 2021. The University of Toronto Press is a Canadian university press founded in 1901. Although it was founded in 1901, the press did not actually publish any books until 1911. The Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival (german: Internationales Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg), often referred to by the German-language initialism IFFMH, is an annual film festival established in 1952 hosted jointly by the cities of Mannheim and Heidelberg in Baden-Württemberg, the southwest region of Germany. The festival focuses on arthouse and auteur cinema produced by international newcomer directors, and historically it served as a springboard for many experimental filmmakers from cinemas that have been overlooked by Western audiences. The Adelaide Film Festival (AFF, formerly ADLFF) is film festival usually held for two weeks in mid-October in cinemas in Adelaide, South Australia. The Directors' Fortnight (french: Quinzaine des Réalisateurs) is an independent selection of the Cannes Film Festival. It was started in 1969 by the French Directors Guild after the events of May 1968 resulted in cancellation of the Cannes festival as an act of solidarity with striking workers. ''New Film Makers'' is a Canadian experimental short film television miniseries which was broadcast on CBC Television in 1969. Premise Lyal Brown hosted the series which featured independent short films and interviews with their producers. Chroma key technology was used to show excerpts from films as background for the interviews with filmmakers. Jack Vance developed the series concept, with research by Betty-Jean Beyer.
