Christoffer Sundgren
Kjell Tommy Christoffer Sundgren (born 31 July 1989) is a Swedish curler. He currently plays lead for the Swedish national team, skipped by Niklas Edin. The World Curling Federation's historical records rank Sundgren as one of the most successful curlers of all time, both in the medals that he has received and his lifetime performance in individual championships. He is one of only three curlers in history to have won both the Olympic Gold medal and five World Championship gold medals. In 2022, he surpassed the previous record holders for World Men's Curling Championship medals, winning his fifth gold medal, in addition to his and European Men's Curling Championship (5 gold, 2 silver), placing him third of all time on both lists behind his teammates Edin and Oskar Eriksson. Sveg
Sveg () is a locality and the seat of Härjedalen Municipality in Jämtland County, Sweden with 2,547 inhabitants in 2010. Overview Sveg is the largest urban area in Härjedalen and the fourth largest in the county of Jämtland. The Ljusnan river flows through the city. Sveg is located on Riksväg 84 which runs from Hudiksvall in Gävleborg County to the Norwegian border where it connects with Fylkesvei 31 providing a route to Røros. The addition of railway lines, Orsa–Svegs Järnväg between Orsa and Sveg in 1909 together with connection line from Sveg to Brunflo in 1922 and between Sveg and Hede in 1924, supported the development of large forest companies in the area. World Curling Championships
The World Curling Championships are the annual world championships for curling, organized by the World Curling Federation and contested by national championship teams. There are men's, women's and mixed doubles championships, as well as men's and women's versions of junior and senior championships. There is also a world championship for wheelchair curling. The men's championship started in 1959, while the women's started in 1979. The mixed doubles championship was started in 2008. Since 2005, the men's and women's championships have been held in different venues, with Canada hosting one of the two championships every year: the men's championship in odd years, and the women's championship in even years. The 2019 Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships was held in 2019 to qualify European curling teams for the 2020 World Curling Championships and World Qualification Event. Switzerland last hosted the European Curling Championships in 2010, when it was also held in Champéry. European Curling Championships
The European Curling Championships are annual curling tournaments held in Europe between various European nations. The European Curling Championships are usually held in early to mid December. The tournament also acts as a qualifier for the World Championships, where the top eight nations qualify. In November 1974, a six-nations tournament was held in Zürich, Switzerland which included Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, France, Italy, and Norway. In March 1975, it was decided that the championships would be competed in December. At the semi-annual general meeting in Gävle, Sweden in April 2004, a new competition called the European Mixed Curling Championships was formed. 2017 World Men's Curling Championship
The 2017 World Men's Curling Championship (branded as Ford World Men's Curling Championship 2017 for sponsorship reasons) was a curling event that was held from April 1 to 9 at Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton, Alberta. Canada won the title for the 36th time overall and the second consecutive year. Like Rachel Homan's team at the women's tournament, Brad Gushue and his teammates finished with a perfect 13–0 record, which included defeating eventual runner-up Niklas Edin of Sweden three times. Switzerland won the bronze medal. With the win, Gushue became the first skip in the history of the sport to win the world junior title, the Olympic gold medal, and the world men's title, and Canada became the first country ever to be in simultaneous possession of Olympic and World championships in both men's and women's curling. 2022 World Men's Curling Championship
The 2022 World Men's Curling Championship was held from April 2 to April 10 at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, United States. Team Sweden, skipped by Niklas Edin, was the defending championship team. The 2022 WMCC trialed the no-tick rule for the first time at a men's tournament at this level. In the final, Team Edin won its fourth straight world title, defeating Canada's Brad Gushue rink 8–6. It was the sixth career World title for Edin, whose team became the first ever to win an Olympic gold and World championship in the same year. 2021 World Men's Curling Championship
The 2021 World Men's Curling Championship (branded as the 2021 BKT Tires & OK Tire World Men's Curling Championship for sponsorship reasons) was held from April 2 to 11 at the Markin MacPhail Centre at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Canada. The event was originally to be held in Ottawa, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the championship was moved to Calgary. The event was held in a bio-secure bubble at Canada Olympic Park, which also hosted all major Curling Canada championships leading up to the Worlds (including the 2021 Tim Hortons Brier, which determined Canada's entrant).
