Christina Martin
Christina Martin (born January 1980) is a British writer and former stand-up comedian. She came third in the 2006 Funny Women Awards. She was a feature writer for '' Viz'' magazine between 2006 and 2009. Her articles appear in the annuals 'Last Turkey in the Shop', 'The Council Gritter', 'The Five Knuckle Shuffle' and 'The Cleveland Steamer' and in their thirty year retrospective book 'Anus Horribilis'. Christina wrote for ''New Humanist'' magazine between 2007 and 2009.God Trumps, her feature from the Nov/Dec 2008 issue, is the most viewed online article in the website's history gaining 50,000 hits in one day and has been made into a playable card game. A chapter she wrote on the creation of God Trumps featured in The Atheist's Guide to Christmas. She has appeared on the BBC7 show ''Festival Atmosphere 2006'' and the BBC Radio 4 show 28 Acts in 28 Minutes'. Funny Women
Funny Women is an online and in-person workshop community dedicated to the support of female comedians. It was founded by Lynne Parker in 2002 as a reaction to misogynistic comments from a comedy promoter. Funny Women helps women find their voice, promote them, and assists charities. During the 2019 Funny Women Awards Final, Funny Women announced that their new Patron (renamed “Matron”), would be Jo Brand. Live events Funny Women runs "Stand Up to Stand Out" comedy workshops hosted by Parker. In 2013, Funny Women hosted the first Workshop Weekend at the women-only business club B.Hive in Covent Garden. ''Viz'' is a British adult comic magazine founded in 1979 by Chris Donald. It parodies British comics of the post-war period, notably ''The Beano'' and ''The Dandy'', but with extensive profanity, toilet humour, black comedy, surreal humour and generally sexual or violent storylines. It also sends up tabloid newspapers, with mockeries of articles and letters pages. It features parody competitions and advertisements for overpriced 'limited edition' tat, as well as obsessions with half-forgotten kitsch celebrities from the 1960s to the 1980s, such as Shakin' Stevens and Rodney Bewes. Occasionally, it satirises current affairs and politicians, but it has no particular political standpoint. ''New Humanist'' is a quarterly magazine, published by the Rationalist Association in the UK, that focuses on culture, news, philosophy, and science from a sceptical perspective. History The ''New Humanist'' has been in print for more than 131 years; starting out life as ''Watts's Literary Guide'', founded by C. A. Watts in November 1885. It later became ''The Literary Guide and Rationalist Review'' (1894–1954), ''Humanist'' (1956–1971) and the ''New Humanist'' in 1972. ''The Atheist's Guide to Christmas'' is a 2009 book written by 42 atheist celebrities, comedians, scientists and writers who give their humorous and serious tips for enjoying the Christmas season as an atheist. It made the Amazon best-seller list on its launch. It is the first atheist charity book campaign with the full book advance and half of the royalties being donated to the UK HIV charity Terrence Higgins Trust. Contributors to the book include Richard Dawkins, Charlie Brooker, Derren Brown, Ben Goldacre, Jenny Colgan, David Baddiel, Simon Singh, AC Grayling, Jey McCreight, Natalie Haynes, Brian Cox, Nick Doody, Ed Byrne, Christina Martin, Matt Kirshen, Richard Herring, Emery Emery and Simon Le Bon. BBC Radio 4 Extra (formerly BBC Radio 7) is a British digital radio station from the BBC, broadcasting archived repeats of comedy, drama and documentary programmes nationally, 24 hours a day.
