Christina Brehmer
Christina Lathan (née Brehmer; born 28 February 1958) is a retired East German sprinter who specialised in the 400 metres. Born in Altdöbern, Brehmer started training in 1969 at the sports club SG Dynamo Senftenberg, and was transferred to SC Dynamo Berlin in 1973. At the 1975 European Junior Championships she won three gold medals, in 400 m, 4 × 100 metres relay and 4 × 400 metres relay. In 1976 she set world record 49.77 seconds, first electronic time under 50 seconds. The record was broken by Poland's Irena Szewińska a month later. At the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal she won the silver medal in the 400 m behind Irena Szewinska, as well as a gold medal in the 4 x 400 m relay with her teammates Brigitte Rohde, 400 m bronze medalist Ellen Streidt and Doris Maletzki. Altdöbern
Altdöbern (Lower Sorbian ''Stara Darbnja'') is a municipality in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district, in southern Brandenburg, Germany. Geography Altdöbern lies in Lower Lusatia, but is not part of its sorbian inhabited area. The flat landscape is dominated by large forests and new lakes created from the remainings of former opencast lignite mines since the 1990s. One of these is 880 ha (2200 acre) large ''Altdöberner See'', east of the town. Its flooding is planned to be finished in the 2020s. SC Dynamo Berlin
The Sports Club Dynamo Berlin was an East German sports club that existed from 1954 to 1991. It was the largest sports club of SV Dynamo, the sports association of the security agencies. The club was disbanded after German reunification and eventually succeeded by sports club SC Berlin. Sporting spectrum The sports club offered the following kinds of sport in the 1980s: team handball, athletics, gymnastics, cycling, speed skating, racewalking, figure skating, ice hockey, fencing, boxing, and volleyball. The departments in equestrianism, modern pentathlon and parachuting were separated from the sports club in 1956 and merged into the new sports club SC Dynamo Hoppegarten in Hoppegarten. IAAF World Cup In Athletics
The IAAF Continental Cup was an international track and field competition organized by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). The event was proposed by IAAF former President Primo Nebiolo and was first held in 1977 as the IAAF World Cup. The event was initially held every two years, but following the establishment of the World Athletics Championships it moved to a quadrennial basis. The 1989 edition was held the same year as the World Indoor Championships, then moved to the even-year between Summer Olympics, ensuring the sport of athletics had a global competition in all years. Doris Maletzki (for some time Brachmann, born 11 June 1952 in Salzwedel) is a retired East German sprinter who specialised in the 200 metres. She won a gold medal in 4 × 100 metres relay at the 1974 European Championships, together with teammates Christina Heinich, Bärbel Eckert and Renate Stecher. At the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal she won a gold medal in 4 × 400 metre relay, with her teammates Brigitte Rohde, 400 m silver medalist Christina Brehmer and 400 m bronze medalist Ellen Streidt. Brigitte Rohde
Brigitte Köhn ( Rohde; born 8 October 1954 in Prenzlau, Bezirk Neubrandenburg) is a retired East German sprinter who specialised in the 400 metres and later 400 metres hurdles. She won a gold medal in 4 × 400 metres relay at the 1974 European Championships, together with teammates Waltraud Dietsch, Ellen Streidt and Angelika Handt. At the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal she won another gold medal in same event, with her teammates Doris Maletzki, 400 m silver medalist Christina Brehmer and 400 m bronze medalist Ellen Streidt. Irena Szewińska
Irena Szewińska (née Kirszenstein; Polish pronunciation: ; 24 May 1946 – 29 June 2018) was a Polish Sprint (running), sprinter who was one of the world's foremost athletes for nearly two decades, in multiple events. She is the only athlete in history, male or female, to have held the world record in the 100 m, the 200 m and the 400 m. Personal life Irena Kirszenstein was born in Leningrad to a Jewish-Poles, Polish family. Her father came from Warsaw and mother from Kiev. They met in Samarkand where they studied at the time, and in 1947 moved to Warsaw. The 4 × 400 metres relay or long relay is an athletics track event in which teams consist of four runners who each complete 400 metres or one lap. It is traditionally the final event of a track meet. At top class events, the first leg and the first bend of the second leg are run in lanes. Start lines are thus staggered over a greater distance than in an individual 400 metres race; the runners then typically move to the inside of the track.
