Career Born in Wellington on 3 August 1904, Christie trained at the Elam School of Fine Art at Auckland University College. She taught art at Takapuna Grammar School between 1935 and 1940. During World War II she was a driver in the New Zealand Women's Auxiliary Army Corps and her paintings were included in the 1944 Artists in Uniform exhibition. Although Christie did paint some landscapes in oils, she preferred to break with her contemporaries and depict vibrant social scenes, specifically set in Auckland. Amalie Christie
Amalie Christie (21 December 1913 – 4 March 2010) was a Norwegian classical pianist, author and anthroposophist. Personal life She was born in Vang, Hedmark as a daughter of professor Werner Hosewinckel Christie (1877–1927) and Baroness Karen Amalie Wedel-Jarlsberg (1886–1952). She was a sister of Generals Johan and Werner Christie, a grandniece of politician Hans Langsted Christie and Christian Christie, an aunt of Werner Christie and a second cousin of Jacob Christie Kielland and Else Christie Kielland. Alexander Christie (1901-1946) was a Scottish artist who specialised in portraiture, working mainly in oil or charcoal, occasionally in pastel. He was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy and the Royal Scottish Academy. Early life Christie was born at Aberdeen in 1901 and educated at Robert Gordon's College. Having studied and commenced practice in dentistry, he abandoned that profession in order to train as an artist. He obtained admission to Gray's School of Art and in 1925 was awarded the Robert Brough Memorial Scholarship and enrolled at the Royal Academy Schools. In the following year he was elected a full professional member of the Aberdeen Art Union and used the funds from a travelling scholarship (awarded by Robert Gordon's College) to spend a year in Spain. Alexander Christie (May 28, 1848 – April 6, 1925) was an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as Bishop of Vancouver Island (1898–1899) and Archbishop of Oregon City (1899–1925). He founded the University of Portland in 1901. Biography Christie was born in Highgate, Vermont and later moved with his family to Wisconsin and, after the end of the Civil War, to Austin, Minnesota. He studied at the Grand Seminary of Montreal from 1874 to 1877, and was ordained a priest on December 2, 1877. He served as pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Waseca from 1878 until 1890, when he was transferred to the new Church of the Ascension in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Alexander Christie (1792 – December 9, 1872) was a Scottish fur trader and chief factor of the Red River Colony from 1833 to 1839 and from 1844 to 1848. Christie was instrumental in leading trading ceremonies on behalf of the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) while he served in a role known as chief factor. When he retired, he received a half share in the company's profits for two years beyond the normal retirement period. It is reported that Christie was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1792.
