Charles-Joseph Christiani
Baron Charles-Joseph Christiani (27 February 17726 April 1840) was a French Army ''Maréchal de camp'' who served during the Napoleonic Wars. Career Born in Strasbourg, Christiani was originally a private in the French Revolutionary Army and rose to high rank during the Napoleonic Wars (1803–1815). He was promoted to colonel on 5June and particularly distinguished himself at the 1809 Battle of Wagram and on the 14February 1810 Napoleon created him a baron. On 30August 1813 he was promoted to Brigadier general. During the 1814 campaign in north-east France at the Battle of Bar-sur-Aube on 27February 1814, Christiani, at the head of a division of the Old Guard, attacked and drove back the Austrians and routed the troops of General Kleist. This feat of arms is quoted by Napoleon in his letters to the Empress. Christiani then defended Montmartre during the 1814 Battle of Paris against troops of the Sixth Coalition. Cyril Marcel Christiani (28 October 1913 – 4 April 1938) was a West Indian cricketer who played in four Test matches in 1934/35. He played wicketkeeper in all four Tests of the 1934–35 series. Christiani died in 1938 of malaria. Rita Christiani
Rita Christiani (1917-2008) was a Trinidad-born American dancer who appeared in American films during the 1940s. Biography Christiani was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad on December 22, 1917. She danced and toured with the Katherine Dunham Company in the early 1940s. In the course of touring, Christiani met the independent avant-garde filmmaker, Maya Deren, and was given a role in Deren’s film '' Ritual in Transfigured Time'' (1946). Deren was the main character in the film and Christiani danced the role of Deren’s alter ego, their images interchanging in black and white counterpoint to the dancer Frank Westbrook. Anaïs Nin was also in the film. Footage of Christiani from this film was included in the documentary '' In the Mirror of Maya Deren'' (2002) by Martina Kudlacek. Robert Christiani
Robert Julian Christiani (19 July 1920 – 4 January 2005) was a West Indian cricketer who played in 22 Tests from 1947–48 to 1953–54. At domestic level he played first-class cricket for British Guiana. Christiani played his first Test in January 1948, playing against England; it was the West Indies first match since 1939 due to the interruption of the Second World War and he was one of seven debutantes fielded by the West Indies. Christiani was dismissed on 99, and is one of just three players in the history of Test cricket to have been dismissed one short of a century on debut. Christiani made his maiden Test century later that year, in November when the West Indies toured India.
