The Christian Democratic Party (CDP) is a Christian social conservative party in South Africa. The party was registered on 9 September 1999 and was formally launched a year later. The CDP's support was mainly in Gauteng, and its alliance partner in Mpumalanga was the Christen Party/Christian Party. Leadership structure The party's leadership structure is the Federal Leadership Council, which consisted of the party leader, two co-leaders, and provincial leaders. Party leader The leader of the CDP is Theunis Botha, who had been a Christian cleric since 1970. He is the founder of the Christian Drama Workshop (CDW) and the Christian Fellowship of Ministries (CFM). He had been involved in politics since 1994, as councillor in the Pretoria City Council and member of the provincial legislator (MPL) for Gauteng. South African General Election, 2014
General elections were held in South Africa on 7 May 2014, to elect a new National Assembly and new provincial legislatures in each province. It was the fifth election held in South Africa under conditions of universal adult suffrage since the end of the apartheid era in 1994, and also the first held since the death of Nelson Mandela. It was also the first time that South African expatriates were allowed to vote in a South African national election. The National Assembly election was won by the African National Congress (ANC), but with a reduced majority of 62.1%, down from 65.9% in the 2009 election. The official opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) increased its share of the vote from 16.7% to 22.2%, while the newly formed Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) obtained 6.4% of the vote. South African General Election, 2009
General elections were held in South Africa on 22 April 2009 to elect members of the National Assembly and provincial legislatures. These were the fourth general elections held since the end of the apartheid era. The North Gauteng High Court ruled on 9 February 2009 that South African citizens living abroad should be allowed to vote in elections. The judgment was confirmed by the Constitutional Court on 12 March 2009, when it decided that overseas voters who were already registered would be allowed to vote. Registered voters who found themselves outside their registered voting districts on election day were also permitted to vote for the national ballot at any voting station in South Africa. The result was a victory for the ruling African National Congress (ANC), which won 264 of the 400 seats in the National Assembly, a fifteen seat reduction compared to the 2004 elections and losing its two-thirds supermajority. General elections were held in South Africa on Wednesday, 14 April 2004. The African National Congress (ANC) of President Thabo Mbeki, which came to power after the end of the apartheid system in 1994, was re-elected with an increased majority. These were the third elections held since the end of the apartheid era. The South African National Assembly consists of 400 members, elected by proportional representation. 200 members are elected from national party lists, the other 200 are elected from party lists in each of the nine provinces. The President of South Africa is chosen by the National Assembly after each election. The Christen Party/Christian Party (CP) was a Protestant Christian democratic party, in South Africa, formed in October 2005. The party membership was open to everyone who accepted Jesus Christ as Saviour and the Bible as the inerrant word of God. The CP declared in its founding statement: The Christian Party seeks to glorify God through our political participation in South Africa in a manner which will educate, inform and promote the Biblical Worldview and apply the Lordship of Jesus Christ to all areas and aspects of our daily life.
