Christian Brothers University is a private Roman Catholic higher education institution in Memphis, Tennessee. It was founded in 1871 by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, a Catholic teaching order. History Christian Brothers University was founded on November 19, 1871, by members of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, a Roman Catholic religious order founded by St. John Baptist de la Salle, the patron saint of teachers. Christian Brothers Buccaneers
The Christian Brothers University Buccaneers and Lady Buccaneers are the official sports teams of Christian Brothers University. The Bucs and Lady Bucs play in Division II as a part of the Gulf South Conference. The university's colors are Red and grey. The mascot is Bucky the Buccaneer. Conference history The Buccaneers began playing in the 1950s as independents. Over the last half-century, CBU has competed in the NAIA Division I in the Volunteer State Athletic Conference and the Tennessee Collegiate Athletic Conference. Since 1992, CBU has been a member of the NCAA Division II and a member of the Gulf South Conference since 1996. East Parkway (Memphis, Tennessee)
The Memphis Parkway System (locally known as the Parkway System, The Parkways, or simply by their individual names) is a system of parkways that formed the original outer beltway around Memphis, Tennessee. They consist of South Parkway, East Parkway, and North Parkway. Designed by George Kessler, the Parkway System connects Martin Luther King Jr. Riverside Park with Overton Park. The system was put on the National Register of Historic Places on July 3, 1989. History In response to the yellow fever epidemic and in an attempt to revitalize Memphis, the city's leaders decided to improve the city's infrastructure, including improving sewer systems, creating public utilities, and creating a system of parks connected by a system of boulevards.
