Christen Christensen (sculptor)
Christen Christensen (18 January 1806 21 August 1845) was a Danish sculptor and medallist. His works as a medallist include the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts' C. F. Hansen Medal and Thorvaldsen Medal. Early life and education Christensen was born on 17 January 1806 in Copenhagen, the son of merchant and later innkeeper John Christensen (d. c. 1819) and Maria Kirstine Birch. He studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and was at the same time in 1819–23 articled to the sculptor Nicolai Dajon. He won the Academy's small and large silver medals in 1824, the small gold medal in 1825 and finally the large gold medal in 1827. Career Christensen was already as a student commissioned to create a number of sculptural works for the Royal Danish Theatre and Christianshorg Palace. Edvard Lehmann
Edvard Lehmann (1815-1892) was a Danish painter, illustrator and lithographer who is mainly remembered for his work as a theatre painter. His drawings and watercolours are an importance source of knowledge about Danish theatre during the Danish Golden Age. Biography Lehmann was born in Copenhagen on 20 January 1815, the son of miniature painter Johan Peter Christian Lehmann and Johanne Lassen. He never married and left no children. Lehmann studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1828. He worked at the Royal Danish Theatre as a costume draughtsman c. 1840-70, collaborating with August Bournonville. Lehmann was also active as a portraitist and painted humorous genre paintings of street life in Copenhagen. Martinus Rørbye
Martinus Christian Wesseltoft Rørbye (; 17 May 1803 – 29 August 1848) was a Danish painter, known both for genre works and landscapes. He was a central figure of the Golden Age of Danish painting during the first half of the 19th century. The most traveled of the Danish Golden Age painters, he traveled both north to Norway and Sweden and south to Italy, Greece and Constantinople. He was also the first Danish painter to take to painting in Skagen at the northern top of Jutland, almost half a century before the thriving community of Skagen Painters formed and came to fame, through Michael Ancher, Anna Ancher and P.S. Hirschsprung Collection
The Hirschsprung Collection (Danish: Den Hirschsprungske Samling) is an art museum located on Stockholmsgade in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is located in a parkland setting in Østre Anlæg, near the Danish National Gallery, and houses a large collection of Danish art from the 19th and early 20th century. The emphasis is on the Danish Golden Age, from 1800 to 1850, but also the Skagen Painters and other representatives of the Modern Breakthrough are well represented. The museum is built around the personal art collection of Heinrich Hirschsprung, a tobacco manufacturer and patron of the arts who founded his art collection in 1865. Constantin Hansen
Carl Christian Constantin Hansen (Constantin Hansen) (3 November 1804 – 29 March 1880) was one of the painters associated with the Golden Age of Danish Painting. He was deeply interested in literature and mythology, and inspired by art historian Niels Laurits Høyen, he tried to recreate a national historical painting based on Norse mythology. He painted also many altarpieces and portraits, including the monumental oil painting '' The Danish Constituent Assembly'' (''Den grundlovgivende Rigsforsamling'') between 1861 and 1865. Thorvaldsens Museum
The Thorvaldsen Museum is a single-artist museum in Copenhagen, Denmark, dedicated to the art of Danish Neoclassical sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770–1844), who lived and worked in Rome for most of his life (1796–1838). The museum is located on the small island of Slotsholmen in central Copenhagen next to Christiansborg Palace. Wilhelm Bendz
Wilhelm Ferdinand Bendz (20 March 1804 – 14 November 1832) was a Danish painter mainly known for genre works and portraits which often portray his artist colleagues and their daily lives. He was one of the most talented artists in the successful generation of painters who studied under Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg but died early and has therefore left a relatively small oeuvre. Order Of The Dannebrog
The Order of the Dannebrog ( da, Dannebrogordenen) is a Danish order of chivalry instituted in 1671 by Christian V. Until 1808, membership in the order was limited to fifty members of noble or royal rank, who formed a single class known as ''White Knights'' to distinguish them from the ''Blue Knights'' who were members of the Order of the Elephant. In 1808, the Order was reformed and divided into four classes. The ''Grand Commander'' class is reserved to persons of princely origin. It is awarded only to royalty with close family ties with the Danish Royal House. The statute of the Order was amended in 1951 by a Royal Ordinance so that both men and women could be members of the Order.
