Christ the King is a title of Jesus in Christianity referring to the idea of the Kingdom of God where the Christ is described as seated at the right hand of God. Many Christian denominations consider the kingly office of Christ to be one of the threefold offices: Christ is a prophet, priest, and king. The title "Christ the King" is also frequently used as a name for churches, schools, seminaries, hospitals, and religious institutes. Christ The King Seminary (Pakistan)
The Christ the King Seminary is a Roman Catholic seminary in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town, Karachi, Pakistan; located in adjacent to the Portiuncula Friary. In its early years most of the faculty were provided by the Franciscans. It has been described as "the pioneering theological institution for the Catholic Church in Pakistan." The high-water mark of the seminary's 50-year existence was the recruitment of 98 seminarians for the class that entered in 1990. Origins On 5 April 1957 Pope Pius XII issued a decree through the Congregation of the Faith to build a regional seminary in Karachi. When the seminary started in 1956 it had only four students. The Sanctuary of Christ the King ( pt, Santuário de Cristo Rei) is a Catholic monument and shrine dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ overlooking the city of Lisbon situated in Almada, in Portugal. It was inspired by the '' Christ the Redeemer'' statue of Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil, after the Cardinal Patriarch of Lisbon visited that monument. The project was inaugurated on 17 May 1959. The giant statue was erected to express gratitude because the Portuguese were spared the direct destructive effects of World War II. The ''Cristo Rei of Dili'' (Christ the King of Dili) statue ( pt, Estátua do Cristo Rei de Díli, tet, Estátua Cristo Rei Dili) is a colossal statue of Jesus Christ situated atop a globe at Cape Fatucama in Dili, East Timor. It is one of East Timor's main tourist attractions. The statue was designed, and its construction supervised, by Mochamad Syailillah, who is better known as "Bolil". It was officially unveiled by President Suharto of Indonesia in 1996 as a gift from the Indonesian Government to the people of Timor Timur, the then Indonesian province. Location The statue, and the globe on which it rests, are mounted on the peak of Cape Fatucama at the end of the Fatucama peninsula. The Franciscan Missionaries of Christ the King (F.M.C.K.) is a Roman Catholic religious congregation for women that originated in what is now Pakistan and founded schools, orphanages, homes for the aged and disabled and hospitals throughout the country. History The congregation was founded in 1937 by Mother Bridget Sequeira (a native of Saligao, North Goa, then part of Portuguese India) in Karachi,which was a part of British India. The Community of Christ the King (CCK) was an Anglican religious order of Benedictine nuns near Wangaratta, Victoria, Australia. Founded in 1993, this enclosed and contemplative order was under the jurisdiction of the Anglican Church of Australia. The convent operated guest and retreat facilities and the sisters provided a ministry of spiritual direction. CCK's origins were in the Community of the Holy Name based in the Melbourne suburb of Cheltenham, Victoria. In 1974 three members of CHN, who wished to live an enclosed contemplative life rather than an active one, began to live such a life within the grounds of CHN's Cheltenham headquarters. From 1981 the three sisters lived in a separate home, called the House of Christ the King. Christ the King Priory, Tororo, Eastern Region, Uganda, is a Benedictine monastery of the Congregation of Missionary Benedictines of Saint Ottilien. Established in the 1980s by Fr John Neudegger, OSB, the monastery is currently home to 24 monks. Fr Prior Fidelis is the community's superior. History Early Years Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Uganda was embroiled in civil war. Hostilities forced the withdrawal of many Christian missionaries from the country. A number of Benedictine sisters found themselves in need of spiritual direction, and requested that Abbot Lambert Dörr of Peramiho Abbey send one of his Missionary Benedictine monks to assist their community. Christ the King Priory is a monastery of Benedictine monks located north of Schuyler, Nebraska, United States. It is designated as a "Priory" by the Congregation of Missionary Benedictines of Saint Ottilien under whose oversight the monastery operates. History In 1935, Münsterschwarzach Abbey, Germany, sent two monks to the US in order to secure the survival of the congregation's missionary work during the Nazi regime. The "Benedictine Mission House" was founded that year in Schuyler, Nebraska in a house purchased from a religious community of sisters. In 1979, a new monastery building was constructed north of Schuyler with a distinctive style built into the rolling hills. The Anglican Province of Christ the King (APCK) is a Continuing Anglican church with traditional forms both of doctrine and liturgy. It is considered one of the more Anglo-Catholic jurisdictions among Continuing Anglican church bodies.
