Chris Hernandez is an American former reporter for KSHB-TV in the Kansas City, Missouri metropolitan area and a current municipal official in Kansas City's Civil Rights and Equal Opportunity department. Early life and education Hernandez is a native of Shawnee, Kansas, and received a degree in journalism from the University of Kansas. Broadcast journalism career From 1992 until 1999, Hernandez was a reporter for WDAF-TV in Kansas City, Missouri. Prior to that, he had been a reporter for KFDA-TV in Amarillo, Texas. From 1999 until January 2002, Hernandez worked as a general assignment reporter for WEWS-TV in Cleveland; Hernandez then joined WBBM-TV in Chicago as a general assignment reporter. In April 2004, Hernandez left the station and spent four months backpacking through Mexico and Central America. KSHB-TV (channel 41) is a television station in Kansas City, Missouri, United States, affiliated with NBC. It is owned by the E. W. Scripps Company alongside Lawrence, Kansas-licensed independent station KMCI-TV (channel 38). Both stations share studios on Oak Street in southern Kansas City, Missouri, while KSHB-TV's transmitter is located at the Blue River Greenway in the city's Hillcrest section. KSHB-TV also serves as an alternate NBC affiliate for the St. Joseph market (which borders the northern portions of the Kansas City market), as its transmitter produces a city-grade signal that reaches St. Joseph proper and rural areas in the market's central and southern counties. ''The Pitch'' is a free alternative newspaper distributed in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area, including Lawrence and Topeka, Kansas. While known for its investigative stories of the local government, it also covers local sports stories, restaurants, events, visual art, and concerts. It was started in July 1980 as the ''Penny Pitch'', which was a monthly handout at Penny Lane Record Shop in the Westport area of Kansas City. The original editors were Dwight Frizzell and Jay Mandeville. Village Voice Media bought ''The Pitch'' in 1999, and sold the paper in 2011 to SouthComm Communications. WBBM-TV (channel 2) is a television station in Chicago, Illinois, United States, airing programming from the CBS network. Owned and operated by the network's CBS News and Stations division, the station maintains studios on West Washington Street in the Loop district, and its transmitter is located atop the Willis Tower. History Early history (1940–1953) WBBM-TV traces its history to 1940 when Balaban and Katz, a subsidiary of Paramount Pictures, signed on experimental station W9XBK, the first all-electronic television facility in Chicago.
