Chris Essex
Chris Essex is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 2000s for the Melbourne Storm. Playing career In 1997, Essex came off the bench for the Redcliffe Dolphins in their Grand Final win over the Easts Tigers. In 1998, he represented the Queensland Residents team. In 1999, he came off the bench in the Dolphins' Grand Final loss to the Burleigh Bears. In 2000, Essex joined the Norths Devils, the Melbourne Storm's Queensland Cup feeder club. Melbourne Storm
The Melbourne Storm are a rugby league club based in Melbourne, Victoria in Australia that participates in the National Rugby League. The first fully professional rugby league team based in the state, the Storm entered the competition in 1998. The Storm were originally a Super League initiative, created in 1997 during the Super League war, however, following the Super League collapse, the team became a part of the newly formed, united competition. The club play their home games at AAMI Park. The Storm have won four premierships since their inception, in 1999, 2012, 2017 and 2020, and have contested several more grand finals, but were stripped of the 2007 and 2009 premierships following salary cap breaches. The 2000 NRL season was the 93rd season of professional rugby league football in Australia and the third to be run by the National Rugby League. Fourteen teams competed from February till August for the NRL Premiership, culminating in the 2000 NRL Grand final between the Brisbane Broncos and the Sydney Roosters. The Brisbane Broncos Rugby League Football Club Ltd., commonly referred to as the Broncos, is an Australian professional rugby league football club based in Brisbane, Queensland. Founded in April 1987, the Broncos play in Australia's elite competition, the National Rugby League (NRL) premiership. The Northern Suburbs Devils, or North Brisbane Devils, or often simply referred to as Norths for short, are a rugby league club representing the northern suburbs of Brisbane, Australia. The team colours are sky blue, navy blue and gold. They play in the Queensland Wizard Cup, and, through their predecessors, are one of the oldest clubs in Australia. The Burleigh Bears are an Australian professional rugby league football club based in Gold Coast, Australia. They compete in Queensland's top rugby league competition, the Queensland Cup. The 1999 Queensland Cup season was the 4th season of Queensland's top-level statewide rugby league competition. The competition was contested by Queensland Cup, fourteen teams over a 26-week long season (including finals), with the Burleigh Bears, Burleigh defeating the Redcliffe Dolphins 12–10 in the grand final at Lang Park, Suncorp Stadium. Redcliffe Mick Roberts was named the competition's Player of the Year. Teams The number of teams in the competition was reduced from 16 to 12 for the 1999 season.
