Chris Colwill
Christopher Colwill (born September 11, 1984) is an American international diver from Tampa, Florida. Colwill graduated from Tampa Preparatory School in 2003 and dove for the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia under dive coach Dan Laak. He is hard of hearing, with a 60% hearing loss. Colwill competed at the FINA Diving World Cup in China in 2006 in the 1m event finishing third. He won the 2006 NCAA Division I national title in the 1m and 3m spring board. He was unable to compete at the 2007 NCAA national meet due to an injury but rebounded to take the first prize on the 1m spring board in 2008. Colwill was a member of the United States Olympic team at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, participating in the 3 meter springboard and the synchronized 3 meter with teammate Jevon Tarantino. Brandon, Florida
Brandon is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. It is part of the Tampa–St. Petersburg–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 114,626 at the 2020 census, up from 103,483 at the 2010 census. History Founding Its history began on January 20, 1857, when John Brandon arrived at Fort Brooke (now Tampa) from Mississippi with his first wife Martha and six sons. Deafness has varying definitions in cultural and medical contexts. In medical contexts, the meaning of deafness is hearing loss that precludes a person from understanding spoken language, an audiological condition. In this context it is written with a lower case ''d''. It later came to be used in a cultural context to refer to those who primarily communicate through sign language regardless of hearing ability, often capitalized as ''Deaf'' and referred to as "big D Deaf" in speech and sign. A number of deaf people have competed in the modern Olympic Games, with the earliest known being Oskar Wetzell, a Finnish diver who competed in the 1908 Olympics in London. In some cases, adaptations have been made to accommodate deaf athletes. (There is also a specific event for the deaf, the Deaflympics, organized by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf.
