Chris Catlin
Chris Catlin (6 December 1981) is a professional jockey, who was 2001 British flat racing Champion Apprentice and twice British All-Weather Champion. He quit race-riding in 2016 to become a work rider for Godolphin. Career Christopher Bernard Catlin was born in Barnet on 6 December 6 1981, the son of a Ford car worker. He attended the British Racing School and after initially being apprenticed to Ken Ivory, he joined Mick Channon shortly after leaving in 1998. He became British flat racing Champion Apprentice in 2001 with 71 winners. At Channon's, he earned the nickname "the Cat", for moving around the place quietly and unobtrusively, as well as because of his name. His best racing partnerships came with Imperial Dancer, on whom he won two Group 3s and a Listed race in the summer of 2002, Beckermet, on whom he won two Listed races in late summer 2007 and Royal Power, on whom he achieved the biggest win of his career in the 2006 German 2,000 Guineas. British Flat Racing Champion Apprentice
The flat racing Champion Jockey and Champion Apprentice titles are awarded annually to the jockey(s) and apprentice(s) respectively that have ridden the most winners (both turf and all-weather) in Great Britain during a set period or championship season. The set period has varied over time, originally covering the calendar year when all flat racing was held on turf between March and November. Later, all-weather races outside the turf season were excluded, and from 2015 the championship season was further shortened to exclude the start and end of the turf season. Godolphin (Arabic: جودلفين) is the Maktoum family's private Thoroughbred horseracing stable and was named in honour of the Godolphin Arabian, who came from the desert to become one of the three founding stallions of the modern Thoroughbred. Godolphin is buried at Wandlebury Park in Cambridge, where there is a stone to commemorate this horse in the passageway of the old buildings. Mick Channon
Michael Roger Channon (born 28 November 1948) is an English former professional footballer who played as a forward, most notably for Southampton, and went on to represent the England national team in the 1970s. Scoring over 250 goals in his career, he also became known for his trademark windmill goal celebration. Channon later became a successful racehorse trainer. Football Southampton Channon was born in Orcheston, Wiltshire and made his debut for Southampton as a 17-year-old in 1966, scoring in a match against Bristol City. Within three years he had established himself as the club's main goalscorer and was consistent in front of goal at a time when Southampton were one of the less fashionable teams in English football's First Division. Sir Mark Prescott
Sir Mark Prescott, 3rd Baronet (born 1948), is an English race horse trainer with over 2000 winners to his name, including Alpinista, winner of the 2022 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. He is based at Heath House Stables, an historic 50 box yard at the bottom of Warren Hill in Newmarket. Background Prescott is the son of Conservative Party MP Stanley Prescott and grandson of Sir William Prescott, 1st Baronet, who was also a Conservative MP. He attended Harrow School and in 1965 inherited the Prescott baronetcy from his uncle. Prescott left school aged fifteen, with plans to become a jockey. He was riding in a race at Wye in 1965 when he broke his back in a fall, resulting in a nine-month hospital stay. Chelmsford City Racecourse
Chelmsford City racecourse, originally known as Great Leighs Racecourse, is a thoroughbred horse racing venue located in Great Leighs near Chelmsford, Essex, England. When it opened in April 2008, it was the first entirely new racecourse in the UK since Taunton opened in 1927. It went into administration in January 2009, and racing did not resume until January 2015. Chelmsford City (known as Great Leighs at the time) was developed and owned by entrepreneur John Holmes and his son, Jonathan. It aimed to exploit potentially the largest unserved market in British horseracing.
