Chris Cannizzaro
Christopher John Cannizzaro (May 3, 1938 – December 29, 2016) was an American professional baseball player and coach. He played as a catcher in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1960 to 1974 for the St. Louis Cardinals (1960–61), New York Mets (1962–65), Pittsburgh Pirates (1968), San Diego Padres (1969–71, 1974), Chicago Cubs (1971), and Los Angeles Dodgers (1972–73). Playing career Cannizzaro was born in Oakland, California and attended San Leandro High School. He was signed by the St. Louis Cardinals as an amateur free agent on June 21, 1956. After playing in the minor leagues for four seasons, he made his major league debut with the Cardinals at the age of 21 on April 17, 1960. Catcher
Catcher is a Baseball positions, position in baseball and softball. When a Batter (baseball), batter takes their at bat, turn to hit, the catcher crouches behind home plate, in front of the (home plate, home) Umpire (baseball), umpire, and receives the ball from the pitcher. In addition to this primary duty, the catcher is also called upon to master many other skills in order to field the position well. Hit (baseball)
In baseball statistics, a hit (denoted by H), also called a base hit, is credited to a batter when the batter safely reaches or passes first base after hitting the ball into fair territory with neither the benefit of an error nor a fielder's choice. Scoring a hit To achieve a hit, the batter must reach first base before any fielder can either tag him with the ball, throw to another player protecting the base before the batter reaches it, or tag first base while carrying the ball. Games played (GP) is a statistic used in team sports to indicate the total number of games in which a player has participated (in any capacity); the statistic is generally applied irrespective of whatever portion of the game is contested. Baseball In baseball, the statistic applies to players, who prior to a game, are included on a starting lineup card or are announced as an ''ex ante'' substitute, whether or not they play. For pitchers only, the statistic games pitched is used. Randy Hundley
Cecil Randolph Hundley Jr. (born June 1, 1942) is an American former professional baseball player and coach. He played in Major League Baseball as a catcher for the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Twins, and the San Diego Padres. Hundley played the majority of his career with the Cubs and was considered their leader in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Despite being a light-hitter, Hundley was regarded as one of the best defensive catchers of his era, and the best Cubs catcher since Gabby Hartnett in 1940. Baseball career Hundley was signed by the San Francisco Giants as an amateur free agent in 1960 for the sum of $104,000. Garry Jestadt
Garry Arthur Jestadt (born March 19, 1947), is a retired American Major League Baseball infielder who played for the Montreal Expos, San Diego Padres and Chicago Cubs for all or portions of three seasons ( and –). Jestadt graduated from Fremont High School in Oakland, California, and attended Arizona State University. He threw and batted right-handed, stood tall and weighed . Jestadt was selected by the Cubs in the seventh round of the first amateur draft in MLB history in June 1965. After four seasons, during which Jestadt could not surpass the Double-A level, Montreal chose him with the 43rd pick in the October 1968 National League expansion draft. 1962 New York Mets Season
The 1962 New York Mets season was the first regular season for the Mets, as the National League returned to New York City for the first time since 1957. They went 40–120 (.250) and finished tenth and last in the National League, games behind the NL Champion San Francisco Giants, who had once called New York home. 1961 Major League Baseball Expansion Draft
The 1961 MLB Expansion Draft was held by Major League Baseball on October 10, 1961, to fill the rosters of the New York Mets and the Houston Colt .45s, the new franchises which would enter the league in the 1962 season. The pool of players out of which they could select was limited to the existing National League ballclubs. Due to the poor performance of the Mets and Colt .45s after two seasons, another draft was held for the teams.
