Chris Baker (born 2 February 1991) is an English athlete specialising in the high jump. He won a bronze medal at the 2016 European Championships. Athletics is a group of sporting events that involves competitive running, jumping, throwing, and walking. The most common types of athletics competitions are track and field, road running, cross country running, and racewalking. The results of racing events are decided by finishing position (or time, where measured), while the jumps and throws are won by the athlete that achieves the highest or furthest measurement from a series of attempts. Athletics was one of ten core sports that appeared at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. As a founding sport, athletics has appeared consistently since its introduction at the 1911 Inter-Empire Games; the recognised precursor to the Commonwealth Games. The competition took place between Sunday 27 July and Saturday 2 August at the temporarily modified Hampden Park, Scotland's national football stadium. The programme commenced with the 26.2 mile marathon, which started and finished at Glasgow Green and included numerous para-sport events throughout. The men's high jump competition at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil was held at the Olympic Stadium between 14–16 August. Forty-four athletes from 28 nations competed. The event was won by Derek Drouin of Canada, the nation's first victory in the men's high jump since 1932 (and second overall). Drouin was the ninth man to win multiple medals in the high jump, after his 2012 bronze. Mutaz Essa Barshim, who had tied Drouin for bronze in 2012, was the tenth multiple medalist in the event. 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships – Men's High Jump
The men's high jump at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships took place on March 19, 2016. With eight over 2.29, the medals were settled by clearing 2.33, but not in order. Robert Grabarz was the first over. Erik Kynard had a perfect round going until missing his first attempt. He cleared it on his second. Gianmarco Tamberi made it on his third attempt. Defending champion Mutaz Essa Barshim, also was perfect before 2.33, but after two misses, passed to make one big attempt at 2.36. Barshim failed, but Tamberi cleared it on his first attempt.
