Système U (cycling Team)
Système U () was a French professional cycling team that existed from 1986 to 1988 and which cycled on and promoted Gitane racing bikes. In 1989 the team was renamed Super U–Raleigh–Fiat and rode Raleigh bicycles. Super U being a chain of supermarkets owned by the Système U group. History A Système U team existed during the 1984 season (see Wolber–Spidel) with Marcel Boishardy as manager which was a continuation of the Wolber–Spidel team of the 1983 season. This team included riders such as Jean-René Bernaudeau and Colombian Martín Ramírez Ramírez. The sponsor Système U decided to take over the sponsorship of the highly successful Renault–Elf–Gitane team when Renault decided to retire from the peloton. COVID-19 Pandemic In France
The COVID-19 pandemic in France has resulted in confirmed cases of COVID-19 and deaths. The virus was confirmed to have reached France on 24 January 2020, when the first COVID-19 case in both Europe and France was identified in Bordeaux. The first five confirmed cases were all individuals who had recently arrived from China. A Chinese tourist who was admitted to hospital in Paris on 28 January 2020, died on 14 February 2020, making it the first COVID-19 death in France as well as the first COVID-19 death outside Asia. A key event in the spread of the disease across metropolitan France as well as its overseas territories was the annual assembly of the Christian Open Door Church between 17 and 24 February 2020 in Mulhouse which was attended by about 2,500 people, at least half of whom are believed to have contracted the virus. Crelan–Euphony () was a UCI Professional Continental cycling team based in Belgium that participated in UCI Continental Circuits races and when selected as a wildcard to UCI ProTour events. The team was managed by Gérard Bulens, with assistance from directeur sportifs Jef De Bilde, Claude Criquielion, Marco Saligari and Claude Van Collie. Despite the fact that it was never a top team, they had a 3rd place in the GC of the 2003 Giro d'Italia, thanks to later Discovery Channel and Astana rider Yaroslav Popovych. The team was sponsored by the Belgian companies Crelan, a bank, and Euphony, a telecommunications company. The team folded at the end of the 2013 season, for financial reasons. Mapei–GB
Mapei was an Italian-based road bicycle racing team active from 1993 to 2002, named after sponsoring firm Mapei. From 2003 Mapei dropped their sponsorship, and a new team was built on top of the old with the name of Quick Step-Davitamon. Mapei was one of the strongest teams during the late 1990s, and ranked as the strongest UCI team in 1994-2000 and 2002. The team had the great Belgian and Italian classic specialists of the 1990s such as Johan Museeuw, Michele Bartoli, Andrea Tafi, Franco Ballerini, and had Patrick Lefevre as directeur sportif and then manager. The team won Paris–Roubaix five times. Three times (1996, 1998 and 1999) the team even won the first three places. In the 1996 edition, the sprint for the line was decided 15 km from the finish. Castorama was a French professional cycling team that existed from 1990 to 1995 and was sponsored by the French DIY and home improvement retailer Castorama. History The Castorama team traced back to a team that began in 1976 when former French cycling champion Cyrille Guimard retired from the sport and took over as the main directeur sportif of the Gitane-Campagnolo team. The Renault auto group bought out Gitane cycles and also took over sponsorship of the team making the Renault-Elf-Gitane team that dominated the sport from 1978 to 1984. AD Renting (All-Drie Renting), often simply called ADR, was a Belgian professional cycling team that existed from 1987 to 1989. Tour de France Despite its short history and lack of funds, the team was very successful in the Tour de France. Eddy Planckaert won the points classification in 1988 to go with the victory he achieved in the highly regarded monument the Tour of Flanders earlier that year. In that same spring campaign, Dirk Demol won the Paris–Roubaix after a breakaway of 222 kilometers. The biggest success however was when Greg LeMond, a new signing, won the 1989 Tour de France with the team, taking three stage victories in the process.
