Choe Ui
Choe Ui (1233 – 1258) (최의) was the fourth and last Choe dictator of the Ubong Choe Military regime. Biography When he was born in 1233, his father was a monk. In 1257, Choe Ui became military leader of Goryeo after his father's death. He was beautiful in appearance, quiet and shy, but in other sources, Choe Ui was described as cowardly and obese. He learned poetry and writing. The Choe regime ended, after Choe Ui was assassinated by Kim Jun in order to take the power. His ancestors were all trained in the martial arts, but Choe Ui did not, probably because by then, the Choe family was very wealthy, and no fighting on the battlefields was necessary. Choe Ui was the last of the Choe rulers that lasted 60 years, during which Goryeo could resist the Mongol invasions. In 1258, Kim Jun overthrew him. Choe Hang (1209 – 17 May 1257) was the third dictator of the Choe Military regime, which dominated Goryeo for six decades before and during the Mongol invasions. Choe Hang continued on his predecessor Choe U's anti-Mongol policy, and refused to surrender to the invaders. It is believed that the Choe Military Regime began to decline during his eight-year reign. The Incheon Yi clan (Hangul: 인천 이씨, Hanja: 仁川 李氏) is a Korean clan. Choe U
Choe U (; 1166 - 10 December 1249) was the second Choe dictator of the Ubong Choe Military regime. He himself went out on the battlefield to lead in fighting off the Mongolian invasions. Then he realized that the government was no longer safe at the capital city of Kaesong, and so he forced the king and his officials to flee to Ganghwa island. He took some of his armies and went to Ganghwa island with them. He did this because he knew that the Mongols would not attempt a naval assault against Ganghwa. Therefore, the Goryeo government was kept safe for several decades even after the Choe regime. Background Choe U was the son of the Goryeo Dynasty military regime's founder, Choe Chung-Heon (최충헌,崔忠獻), and grandson of the Grand General Choe Won-Ho (최원호,崔元浩).
