Freeport is a city in Walton County, Florida, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau was 1,787. The 2018 population estimate was 2,472. Geography Freeport is located at . The city is located along U.S. Route 331 and Florida State Road 20. U.S. 331 runs from north to south to the east of the city, leading north to DeFuniak Springs, the Walton County seat, and south to U.S. Route 98 near Santa Rosa Beach. FL-20 runs from west to east through the main part of the city, leading east to Ebro and west to Niceville. Choctawhatchee Bay is a bay in the Emerald Coast region of the Florida Panhandle. The bay, located within Okaloosa and Walton counties, has a surface area of . It is an inlet of the Gulf of Mexico, connected to it through East Pass (also known as Destin Pass). It also connects to Santa Rosa Sound in Fort Walton Beach, Florida to the west and to St. Andrews Bay in Bay County to the east, via the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. East Pass is the only outlet of the bay flowing directly into the Gulf of Mexico. The Choctawhatchee River flows into Choctawhatchee Bay, as do several smaller rivers and streams. The Mid-Bay Bridge crosses the bay, connecting the city of Destin to Niceville, Florida.
