Japanese Units Of Measurement
Traditional Japanese units of measurement or the shakkanhō (, "''shaku–kan'' system") is the traditional system of measurement used by the people of the Japanese archipelago. It is largely based on the Chinese system, which spread to Japan and the rest of the Sinosphere in antiquity. It has remained mostly unaltered since the adoption of the measures of the Tang dynasty in 701. Following the 1868 Meiji Restoration, Imperial Japan adopted the metric system and defined the traditional units in metric terms on the basis of a prototype metre and kilogram. The present values of most Korean and Taiwanese units of measurement derive from these values as well. For a time in the early 20th century, the traditional, metric, and English systems were all legal in Japan. Although commerce has since been legally restricted to using the metric system, the old system is still used in some instances. The old measures are common in carpentry and agriculture, with tools such as chisels, spatels ...

Carbohydrate
In organic chemistry, a carbohydrate () is a biomolecule consisting of carbon (C), hydrogen (H) and oxygen (O) atoms, usually with a hydrogen–oxygen atom ratio of 2:1 (as in water) and thus with the empirical formula (where ''m'' may or may not be different from ''n''), which does not mean the H has covalent bonds with O (for example with , H has a covalent bond with C but not with O). However, not all carbohydrates conform to this precise stoichiometric definition (e.g., uronic acids, deoxy-sugars such as fucose), nor are all chemicals that do conform to this definition automatically classified as carbohydrates (e.g. formaldehyde and acetic acid). The term is most common in biochemistry, where it is a synonym of saccharide (), a group that includes sugars, starch, and cellulose. The saccharides are divided into four chemical groups: monosaccharides, disaccharides, oligosaccharides, and polysaccharides. Monosaccharides and disaccharides, the smallest (lower molecular wei ...

Aldehyde
In organic chemistry, an aldehyde () is an organic compound containing a functional group with the structure . The functional group itself (without the "R" side chain) can be referred to as an aldehyde but can also be classified as a formyl group. Aldehydes are common and play important roles in the technology and biological spheres. Structure and bonding Aldehydes feature a carbon center that is connected by a double bond to oxygen and a single bond to hydrogen and single bond to a third substituent, which is carbon or, in the case of formaldehyde, hydrogen. The central carbon is often described as being sp2- hybridized. The aldehyde group is somewhat polar. The C=O bond length is about 120-122 picometers. Physical properties and characterization Aldehydes have properties that are diverse and that depend on the remainder of the molecule. Smaller aldehydes are more soluble in water, formaldehyde and acetaldehyde completely so. The volatile aldehydes have pungent odors. Al ...

Cubohemioctahedron
In geometry, the cubohemioctahedron is a nonconvex uniform polyhedron, indexed as U15. It has 10 faces (6 squares and 4 regular hexagons), 24 edges and 12 vertices. Its vertex figure is a crossed quadrilateral. It is given Wythoff symbol 4 , 3, although that is a double-covering of this figure. A nonconvex polyhedron has intersecting faces which do not represent new edges or faces. In the picture vertices are marked by golden spheres, and edges by silver cylinders. It is a hemipolyhedron with 4 hexagonal faces passing through the model center. The hexagons intersect each other and so only triangular portions of each are visible. Related polyhedra It shares the vertex arrangement and edge arrangement with the cuboctahedron (having the square faces in common), and with the octahemioctahedron (having the hexagonal faces in common). Tetrahexagonal tiling The ''cubohemioctahedron'' can be seen as a net on the hyperbolic tetrahexagonal tiling with vertex figure 4.6.4.6. ...

Trigonometry
Trigonometry () is a branch of mathematics that studies relationships between side lengths and angles of triangles. The field emerged in the Hellenistic world during the 3rd century BC from applications of geometry to astronomical studies. The Greeks focused on the calculation of chords, while mathematicians in India created the earliest-known tables of values for trigonometric ratios (also called trigonometric functions) such as sine. Throughout history, trigonometry has been applied in areas such as geodesy, surveying, celestial mechanics, and navigation. Trigonometry is known for its many identities. These trigonometric identities are commonly used for rewriting trigonometrical expressions with the aim to simplify an expression, to find a more useful form of an expression, or to solve an equation. History Sumerian astronomers studied angle measure, using a division of circles into 360 degrees. They, and later the Babylonians, studied the ratios of the sides of ...

Chinese Hamster Ovary Cell
Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells are an epithelial cell line derived from the ovary of the Chinese hamster, often used in biological and medical research and commercially in the production of recombinant therapeutic proteins. They have found wide use in studies of genetics, toxicity screening, nutrition and gene expression, particularly to express recombinant proteins. CHO cells are the most commonly used mammalian hosts for industrial production of recombinant protein therapeutics. History Chinese hamsters had been used in research since 1919, where they were used in place of mice for typing pneumococci. They were subsequently found to be excellent vectors for transmission of kala-azar (visceral leishmaniasis), facilitating '' Leishmania'' research. In 1948, the Chinese hamster was first used in the United States for breeding in research laboratories. In 1957, Theodore T. Puck obtained a female Chinese hamster from Dr. George Yerganian's laboratory at the Boston Cancer R ...

Chō (Tsuki Amano Song)
''Chō'' is the 7th major single by female J-pop singer-songwriter Tsukiko Amano, from her third major album ''Tenryū''. It was released on November 12, 2003, and reached a peak of No. 49 on the Oricon weekly charts, charting for 8 weeks. The song is a mixture of pop and heavy rock, containing a guitar heavy chorus and interlude. The song was used as the theme song of PlayStation 2 survival horror game '' Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly''. The lyrics of the song tie in with the main themes of the game, and the PV was shot using similar imagery to that seen in-game, including crimson CG butterflies, which can also be seen on the cover. The song was also included on ''Catalog'', Amano's "best of" album. "Chō" itself is filled with emotional vocals and is slow in tempo; following the tradition of her other singles, the B-side The A-side and B-side are the two sides of phonograph records and cassettes; these terms have often been printed on the labels of two-sided music ...

Chō (Shizuka Kudo Song)
is a song recorded by Japanese singer Shizuka Kudo for her eleventh studio album, ''Doing''. It was released through Pony Canyon as the album's second and last single on March 21, 1996. The song featured on TV commercials for the Takano Yuri Beauty Clinic. The B-side, "Melody", served as ending theme to the 1996 AX tanpatsu drama ''Ren'ai Zenya: Ichido Dake''. "Chō" is the second in a consecutive trilogy of singles with titles made up of only one character: "Chō" is preceded by " 7" and followed by " Yū". It is Kudo's last single to be released in cassette format. Background "Chō" was co-written by Kudo, under the pseudonym Aeri, The Checkers's Naoyuki Fujii and Akihisa Matsūra. It is written in the key of A minor. Kudo's vocals span two octaves; from A3 to E5 in modal voice, and A5 in head voice. During the recording, Kudo suggested a few changes to the melody to Fujii, who chiefly worked on the demo for the track, which were kept on the final cut of the song. "Chō" is the ...
