Bill Chitwood
The Georgia Yellow Hammers were an old-time string and vocal quartet from Gordon County, Georgia from the 1920s. The group featured Charles Moody, Jr. on guitar; Bud Landress on banjo; Phil Reeve on guitar; and Bill Chitwood on fiddle. All members may have been multi-instrumentalists. Tony Russell's notes accompanying the 2004 compilation CD "Old Mountain" identify the personnel on "The Picture on the Wall" (Victor 20943, 9 Aug.1927) as Landress, fiddle and lead vocal; Reeve, guitar and vocal; C. Ernest Moody, banjo-ukulele and vocal; and Clyde Evans, guitar and vocal. Collaboration with the Baxters The group often played with Andrew and Jim Baxter from Curryville, GA (also in Gordon County). Christina Chitwood
Christina Chitwood (born 21 March 1990) is an American former competitive ice dancer who represented Great Britain with Mark Hanretty. They are two-time (2008, 2010) British bronze medalists and competed at the 2009 European Championships, placing 18th. Competitive career Early in her career, Chitwood competed in pair skating with her brother, Will Chitwood. She later switched to ice dancing and competed with Stephen Chasman. Chitwood and Scottish ice dancer Mark Hanretty decided to team up on 31 December 2005 and began training together properly in May 2006. Their training was disrupted by Chitwood's contraction of glandular fever (also known as mononucleosis). They made their debut at the 2007 British Championships at the National Ice Centre in Nottingham, Great Britain, in January 2007, finishing in 7th place. Joie Chitwood
George Rice Chitwood (April 14, 1912 – January 3, 1988), nicknamed "Joie", was an American racecar driver and businessman. He is best known as a daredevil in the Joie Chitwood Thrill Show. Background Chitwood was born in Denison, Texas; he was of Cherokee Indian ancestry. He was orphaned as a 14-year-old and he ended school after 8th grade. He lived in the Dust Bowl-era at Topeka, Kansas and was seeking employment during the Great Depression. May Belle Hutson Chitwood
May Belle Hutson Chitwood (September 17, 1908 – September 19, 1994) was an American author, nematologist, helminthologist, and zoologist at the Agricultural Research Service, curator of the National Parasite Collection, and director of the primate parasite registry at University of California at Davis. Chitwood specialized in the morphology of nematodes early in the research of this aspect of the species, and was considered a world authority. She published over 50 research papers about nematology, helminthology, and zoology. Early life and family Chitwood was born in Lubbock, Texas on 17 September 1908. Walter Randolph "Ranny" Chitwood, Jr. is known for his work as a cardiothoracic surgeon at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University located in Greenville, North Carolina. Chitwood is recognized as the first heart surgeon to perform robot-assisted heart valve surgery in the US. Biography Chitwood is a native of Wytheville, Virginia.
