Chittagong-10 is a constituency represented in the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) of Bangladesh since 2014 by Afsarul Amin of the Awami League. Boundaries The constituency encompasses Chittagong City Corporation wards 8, 11, 12, 13, 14, 24, 25, 26. History The constituency was created for the first general elections in newly independent Bangladesh, held in 1973. Ahead of the 2008 general election, the Election Commission redrew constituency boundaries to reflect population changes revealed by the 2001 Bangladesh census. Ahead of the 2014 general election, the Election Commission renumbered the seat for Sandwip Upazila from Chittagong-16 to Chittagong-3, bumping up by one the suffix of the former constituency of that name and the higher numbered constituencies in the district. Afsarul Amin
Muhammad Afsarul Ameen (born 1 January 1952) is a Awami League politician. He became the Member of Parliament for Chittagong-9 in 2008, was re-elected to the constituency (renumbered Chittagong-10) in 2014 and 2018, and was the Minister of Primary and Mass Education until 2014. Early life Ameen was born on 1 January 1952. He graduated with a M.B.B.S degree. Career Ameen was elected to Parliament from Chittagong-9 in 2008 as a candidate of Awami League. He received 137,106 votes while his nearest rival, Abdullah Al Noman of Bangladesh Nationalist Party, received 127,815 votes. Ameen was elected unopposed from Chittagong-10 as a candidate of Awami League. The election was boycotted by all major political parties and Awami League got majority of the seats without elections. Morshed Khan
Morshed Khan (born 8 August 1940) is a Bangladeshi politician who served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh from 2001 until 2006. He served as a Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Chittagong-10 constituency in the 6th, 7th and 8th parliaments. Khan was imprisoned in May 2009 in connection with a graft case in which he was sentenced to 13 years. Education Khan completed his Bachelor of Engineering study from Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. Career In 1986, Khan was elected the member of Jatiya Sangsad. He was then elected to parliament three more times (February 1996, June 1996, and 2001). 2018 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 30 December 2018 to elect 300 directly-elected members of the Jatiya Sangsad. The result was a landslide victory for the Awami League led by Sheikh Hasina. According to political scientist Ali Riaz, the elections were not free and fair. The BBC News reported that they were marred by violence and allegations of vote rigging. Opposition leader Kamal Hossain rejected the results, calling it "farcical" and demanding fresh elections to be held under a neutral government. 1986 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 7 May 1986. A total of 1,527 candidates contested the election. The result was a victory for the Jatiya Party, which won 153 of the 300 seats. Voter turnout was 61.1%. Bangladesh Nationalist Party, the winner of the previous elections, boycotted the election. The Jatiya Sangsad ( bn, জাতীয় সংসদ, lit=National Parliament, translit=Jatiyô Sôngsôd), often referred to simply as the ''Sangsad'' or JS and also known as the House of the Nation, is the supreme legislative body of Bangladesh. The current parliament of Bangladesh contains 350 seats, including 50 seats reserved exclusively for women. Elected occupants are called Member of Parliament, or MP.
