Chirkov (russian: Чирков, from чирок (''chirok'') meaning "teal") is a Don Cossack Russian masculine surname; its feminine counterpart is Chirkova. The exact origin of the family traces to the river Chir, a tributary of the Don river, and its age and its position are documented. Boris Petrovich Chirkov (russian: Борис Петрович Чирков; 13 August 1901, Brianka – 28 May 1982, Moscow) was a Soviet and Russian actor and Pedagogy, pedagogue. He appeared in 50 films between 1928 and 1975. He was awarded four USSR State Prize, Stalin Prizes: in 1941, 1947, 1949, and in 1952. Svetlana () is a common Orthodox Slavic feminine given name, deriving from the East and South Slavic root ''svet'' (), meaning "light", "shining", "luminescent", "pure", "blessed", or "holy", depending upon context similar if not the same as the word Shweta in Sanskrit. Particularly unique among similar common Russian names, this one is not of ancient Slavic origin, but was coined by Alexander Vostokov in 1802 and popularized by Vasily Zhukovsky in his eponymous ballad "Svetlana", the latter first published in 1813. Viktor Chirkov
Viktor Viktorovich Chirkov (russian: Виктор Викторович Чирков; born 8 September 1959, in Alma-Ata, Kazakh SSR) is a Russian admiral and the former commander of the Baltic Fleet. On 6 May 2012, he was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, succeeding Vladimir Vysotsky, who had occupied the post for almost five years. He retired from his position due to health reasons in March 2016. Military career Chirkov is a surface warfare officer with Pacific Fleet roots. He was born on 8 September 1959 in Alma-Ata, capital of the former Kazakh SSR.
